    19世紀および20世紀におけるアメリカの少女小説に関する一考察 ―少女らの自立と成長―

    This paper reviews several girls’ novels published in the United States (including Canada) during the 19th and the 20th centuries. It also examines how the heroines of girls’ stories are depicted from the perspective of self-reliance and growth, thus showing what American society sought for in girls. Hirono (2023) suggests that some American girls’ stories in the early 20th century have similarity with Jane Eyre(1847) by Charlotte Bronte(1816-55), where the heroine, Jane, strives for self-reliance without waiting for a prince like Cinderella. Even if the heroines of American girls’ novels face difficulties, they believe in themselves and that they have positive attitudes toward their lives. Moreover, these girls see their home as their safe fort where they can return anytime and try to protect themselves and their family. Thus, the main characters in these girls’ stories are depicted as good models for children's readers. Therefore, it can be said that these girls’ stories are still didactic. However, unlike the early didactic books for children, these girls’ stories have a new style of didacticism because these girls can talk about their wills in their own words and act for their own lives audaciously.departmental bulletin pape

    This paper discusses the significance and possibility of English literature for English education. English-Language Literature is one of the five required content subjects in the English Teacher Training Curriculum specified by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology. Reading literary works may enable English learners to see a variety of people’s lives, thoughts, cultures, and society, which they are unable to experience directly. However, literary works have not yet been appreciated sufficiently as teaching materials in English education. For this reason, we use Mark Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (1884), one of the major American literary works, as an example to consider the significance and possibility of English literature in English education. Through reading major literary works written in English, Japanese learners may be able to acquire various English expressions and understand different cultures and society and diversity of people. Thus, for not only learners but teacher trainees, English literature may serve as a gateway to the accumulation of knowledge of the world and advancement of English ability for the development of their communication ability using English.departmental bulletin pape

    本研究は、英語教員養成カリキュラムの有機的な向上に向けて、必修である5科目の役割と関係を考える。学習指導要領が示す日本の英語教育の目標は、学習者のコミュニケーション能力の育成である。そのため、英語科教員養成カリキュラムは、十分な英語コミュニケーション能力と基礎的な英語指導力を備えた教師を輩出しなければならない。このことから、本研究では、英語科学習指導要領が1989年告示版から今日まで柱としているCanale(1983)のコミュニケーション能力の理論的枠組みを応用して必修5科目の役割と関連性を考察するとともに、その考察に基づいて、英語教員養成カリキュラムの有機的な向上を考える。Canale(1983)の理論的枠組みは、コミュニケーション能力を文法能力、社会言語能力、談話能力、方略能力の4構成素で捉えている。そして、文法能力は正確さに関与し他の3構成素を支える一方、他の3構成素は適切性に関与するため、コミュニケーション能力の育成・向上には、4構成素をいずれも欠くことなく育成・向上させなければならないとしている。学習指導要領は、1989年告示版で英語教育の目標を文法の習得からコミュニケーション能力の育成へと大きく舵を切って以来今日まで、この理論的枠組みに基づいている。本研究では、この枠組みを応用しつつ、英語教員養成課程の各科目のコア・カリキュラムに対応させて必修5科目の役割と関連性の考察を進め、英語教員養成カリキュラムの有機的な向上を考える。departmental bulletin pape

    The “10-Week Study Abroad Program in America” offered by the Department of Modern Communication was identified by Shiota (2023) as lacking appeal in the job-hunting market when presented as a significant extracurricular achievement. However, students who participated in the program consistently reported post-program outcomes such as “reaffirming the value of Japan,” “appreciating the importance of parents,” “gaining confidence,” and “understanding the importance of English.” This suggests that, even if it does not directly enhance employability, students clearly gained valuable experiences. According to “Tobitate! Study Abroad JAPAN,” studying abroad is expected to foster personal growth. This study investigates whether the “10-Week Study Abroad Program in America” promotes personal growth and reports on its educational effects.departmental bulletin pape

    生涯スポーツ実践者の育成を目指した大学体育授業の意義 ―運動行動の変容と主観的恩恵に着目して―

    This study aimed to develop lifelong sports practitioners, and examined the effects of university physical education classes that applied a sports education model on changes in exercise behavior and subjective benefits. As a result, 22% of students improved in the stage of change in their exercise behavior, 17.9% declined, and 56% showed no change. Regarding subjective benefits, categories such as "thinking skills," "teamwork," "communication," "knowledge, skills, importance, enjoyment, and effectiveness of exercise and sports," "fair play," "knowledge and skills of parasports," "cooperation with peers," and "expanding human relationships" were commonly extracted in all groups. It was revealed that students whose stage of change in exercise behavior was declining recognized changes in their physical condition due to factors such as lack of exercise. It was also shown that the use of the sports education model may have helped them recognize "thinking skills," "cooperation with peers," and "fair play." From the above, it is suggested that applying the sports education model to university physical education classes at the beginning of adulthood may contribute to the development of lifelong sports practitioners.departmental bulletin pape

    絵本に関する学びが保育者としての育ちにどう影響しているか(1) ―認定絵本士資格を持つ保育者へのインタビュー調査から―

    The purpose of this study was to clarify how learning about picture books affects students and childcare workers. We interviewed four childcare workers who have studied picture books professionally and obtained qualifications. The interviews were recorded, the data were transcribed, and analyzed using the Trajectory Equifinality Approach(TEA)which is one of the qualitative research methods. The results revealed that the confidence at the time of obtaining the qualification turned into a loss of confidence and conflict when they started working. It is thought that the content of what is learned in the training will be more utilized as they gain experience, but it became clear that they did not know how to apply it in the childcare field. It was possible to see from the narratives that the second-year childcare workers gradually gained more leeway, and that the high level of interest in picture books, the learning process in the course, and the practice of using picture books in the field were one of the ways to deepen the understanding of the children in front of them, which led to the improvement of the quality childcare and the specialty of them.departmental bulletin pape

    Communication skills are one of the abilities needed to form and maintain appropriate interpersonal relationships. Ethical consumption is a consumption behavior in which people consider solutions to social issues and support businesses that address those issues, support consumption is one of them. It is inferred communication skills influence ethical consumption attitudes and behaviors. The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between support consumption experience and communication skills. This study used the questionnaire data of 1200 men and women in their 10s to 60s. The results show that who those consumed support, especially young people who used a variety of communication tools and were not afraid of communication, had higher communication skills. And the results show that younger males are more accepting of others and are more likely to prioritize the feelings of others and accept their feelings, thus supportive consumption. On the other hand, the results show that it was thought that middle-aged women would have higher skills and supportive consumption behavior because they consider ethical consumption through social activities and communication with their children.departmental bulletin pape
