The Nexus between Political Awareness and Social Media Political Participation as Mediated by the Political Efficacy Among Youth in Region XI Philippines

    Get PDF
The central aim of this study is to examine the role of political efficacy in mediating the connection between political awareness and social media political participation among youths in Region XI, Philippines. This study used a quantitative method, more especially, a non-experimental correlational approach. Data was collected online through Google Forms using modified questions, and respondents were chosen using stratified random sampling. Validity and reliability tests were per-formed on the measurement model, while descriptive statistics were utilized to depict the constructs in the study. The proposed mediation model was assessed using the standard algorithm-bootstrapping of SmartPLS 4.0 for mediation analysis. The findings revealed that the measurement model is valid and reliable based on the AVE, HTMT, Cronbach’s Alpha values. The results indicated that youth in Region XI demonstrated high levels of political awareness, and moderate levels of political efficacy and social media political participation. Furthermore, the mediation analysis suggests that political efficacy significantly mediates the relationship between political awareness and social media political participation. These results underscore the critical role of political efficacy as a key mechanism through which political awareness translates into active political engagement on social media among the youth. The study provides valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and researchers interested in enhancing political participation through increased political awareness and efficacy

The Mechanics of ESL/EFL Writing Performance at the Tertiary Level

    Get PDF
After exploring different theories of teaching and learning ESL/EFL writing, along with successful models of writing courses and instructional methods, this study investigates the internal complexity of ESL/EFL writing at the tertiary level, as well as the contributing factors in students’ writing performance. The characteristics of different types of language learners are identified in conjunction with the plasticity and lateralization of the bilingual brain and the critical period hypothesis. The study also delves into certain biases and heuristics while it analyzes Kahneman’s System 1 and 2 of thinking and various personality theories in order to determine students’ innate abilities to excel in ESL/EFL writing tasks. Furthermore, the paper elucidates the importance of psychological equivalence in the writing process with the help of Pym’s translation theories, and explains students’ interconnectedness through Berne’s transactional analysis and the ego states of each personality. By integrating neuropsychological perspectives with established pedagogical approaches, such as the scaffolding, product, process, genre and grammar-translation techniques, the article offers a holistic framework for educators and policymakers to enhance ESL/EFL writing instruction, and ultimately proposes future research directions for a better understanding of ESL/EFL students’ needs

Objects as Expression of Power, Religion and Therapy: The “Country” Pots in the Bamenda Grassfields Fondoms of Cameroon

    Get PDF
In most parts of the world especially in Africa, people can be identified and distinguished through objects. These objects which some are worn on the body or carried along are decorated with symbols which could be decoded by those who comprehend their cultural connotations. The object this article focuses on is the indigenous or ‘country’ pots of the Bamenda Grassfields, pots which were used in the past by women in the kitchen, by traditional medical doctors and by traditional leaders; notables and heads of secret societies. Today, these country pots are not very visible in the kitchen as it was the case before because of the introduction of other containers. The questions raised by this paper are: What is the place of the country pot in the lives of the Bamenda Grassfields people? What is the symbolism of the motifs represented on the Bamenda Grassfields country pots? What are the change currently taking place in the production and use of these pots? The objectives of the article are to examine the roles and find out the meanings of the motifs represented on pots. It also explores the changes which are taking place in the production, commercialisation and use of the country pots. Data for this article was collected using the qualitative method and this data was analysed using content analysis and interpreted soon after collection was over. The interpretation was done with the theories of cultural ecology of Steward, functionalism of Radcliff-Brown and Malinowski, symbolic anthropology of Geertz and cultural evolution of Tylor and Morgan. Findings reveal that the country pots are an aspect of material culture of the Bamenda Grassfields. They are of very great cultural value and play a fundamental role in these cultures; they are an expression of power, religion, healing as well as communion. The country pots like any other cultural element, if they are valorised, they will continue to identify the people from generation to generation

The Impact of Algorithmic Culture on the Construction of Self in a Globalized World

    Get PDF
Globalization and the rise of social media have fundamentally reshaped how individuals construct their identities. This paper explores this phenomenon through an interdisciplinary lens, weaving together philosophical and anthropological perspectives. Philosophical frameworks of existentialism and phenomenology illuminate how algorithms shape lived experiences and self-understandings. Anthropological analysis examines how social media platforms foster virtual communities, impacting cultural norms and individual identities. The paper examines how pre-existing cultural backgrounds and social structures influence the impact of algorithmic culture on the self in a globalized world

Financial Inclusion, Poverty Reduction, and Economic Growth in Nigeria: An Empirical Study Using SVAR Approach (1980-2020): Financial Inclusion, Poverty Reduction, and Economic Growth in Nigeria

    No full text
This study examines the empirical analysis of financial inclusion, poverty reduction and economic growth in Nigeria from 1981 to 2020 using the Structural Vector Auto-Regressive (SVAR) model for analysis, with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) as dependent variable and Branches of Commercial Banks (CBBA), Automated Teller Machine (ATMAD), Mobile Phone-Based Transactions and Broad Money Supply (MS) as explanatory variables. The findings of the study reveal that the unit root test shows that Real Gross Domestic Product (RGDP), Commercial Bank Branches (CBB), Money Supply (MS) and Poverty Rate (PR) are stationary at first difference. The results also reveal that in Nigeria, availability and access to money have a positive shock impact on RGDP, and CBB also has a favourable shock effect on RGDP in Nigeria. However, the PR has a negative impact on the RGDP. Therefore, the study recommends that the government should increase its efforts to promote financial inclusion and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) should make commercial banks increase not only their branches but also increase the number of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs)

Elucidation of Richard Bernstein’s Engaged Fallibilistic Pluralism as an Epistemic Framework for the Historiographical Reconstruction of the Sciences

    Get PDF
This paper aims to elucidate the theoretical framework corresponding to Richard Bernstein’s pragmatic turn through a diachronic reconstruction of his early and mature work. It employs a structured-qualitative reading, focusing on ‘engaged fallibilistic pluralism’ as the central category of his thought. The relevance of this work lies in providing an epistemic scheme that can be applied in the historiographical reconstruction of deliberative praxis carried out by plural communities of research, particularly in the controversies inherent in the history of anthropology, considering the categories of ‘juxtaposition’ and ‘critical constellation’ of researchers

Ureteral duplicity in a female patient with renal calculus in left UVJ, a case report.

    Get PDF
Abstract: The ureters are tubular, bilateral, unique structures for each kidney, responsible for draining the urine collected in the renal pelvis to the bladder, so that it can later be eliminated. Ureteral duplication can be described as an abnormal urologic entity, with a frequency reported in 0.3 to 3% of the population. This anomaly is caused by the formation of double ureteral buds, which, in turn, form into separate structures and develop and form their own individual pelvic systems. A duplicated ureter is a result of early division of the ureteral bud into two or more completely or incomplete forms. Its diagnosis, for the most part, occurs incidentally, usually through imaging tests or even during surgery. The objective of this study is to report a case of incomplete ureteral duplication and to highlight the type of treatment performed in the face of obstruction due to lithiasis
