    Diversity practices adopted in higher education leadership in the Southeastern United States

    In the study of exploring diversity practices adopted in higher education leadership in a Southeastern United States, the methodology will be qualitative phenomenological descriptive, with semi-structure interview to guide the research. The study will employ purposive sampling technique, to select faculty members, possessing rich knowledge, by virtue of their experience with the phenomenon of interest, and willing to participate in the study. This is to provide detail information, in-depth, and in-breadth of diversity practices adopted in higher education leadership, at the University of West Florida. Adhering to no specific number of participants upon reaching saturation the data collection will end. To secure confidentiality, and security of participants, Internal Review Board approval will be sorted before data collection. The analysis will proceed by exploring each interview on audio tape. This will involve transcribing and cleaning the data, doing minor editing, formatting, and general tidying up of the data, precisely, familiarizing and memoing emergent patterns, for coding; continuous comparison will lead to tentative categories that will then be compared to each other. This process will assist to create the emerging themes, to critically reflect, and review the process to ensure rigor, and the credibility of the procedure, and trustworthiness of the findings. Additionally, the study will employ triangulation of interviews and documents, using member checking, inter-coder agreement, rich and thick descriptions of the data, reviewing and resolving disconfirming evidence.     Analysis of post-disaster damage detection using Aerial Footage from UWF campus after hurricane Sally

    In this study, we investigate the feasibility of detecting post-disaster damages through camera images obtained onboard an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Aerial footage from the University of West Florida (UWF) campus after being hit by hurricane Sally in 2020 is used in our study. Our goal is to automatically locate and identify all the roof damages caused by Sally on the university campus using a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) based object detection approach. We utilize a TensorFlow Object Detection API model retrained on images hand annotated by our team to demonstrate the damage detection capabilities of CNN. The aim of this study is to propose a framework towards UAV-based post-disaster damage detection and localization to aid the effort of damage recovery after hurricanes.Conference PresentationPublishe

This resource is targeted for healthcare administration, health sciences, and pre-professional students. This book is an adaptation of "Building a Medical Terminology Foundation" published by Carter and Rutherford at eCampus Ontario. The anatomy and physiology content of this OER has been adapted from the OpenStax Anatomy and Physiology OER by Betts et al. Both books are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 Internal License and in the spirit of OPEN education we have licensed this OER with the same license

    The influence of personal attitude on instructor intent to integrate online collaborative activities

    Collaborative activities are a method used in higher education to develop the higher-order skills that students need to succeed in today’s workforce. However, instructors have continued to make the integration of online collaborative activities a low priority. The purpose of this study was to explore the influence of personal attitude on instructor intent to integrate collaborative activities. The principal results determined that participant behavioral beliefs determining personal attitude had a negative influence on instructor intent. The primary areas of influence were lack of real value, the increased difficulty with managing the activity, instructor challenges, and online student expectations. Major conclusions include providing instructors with expertise in instructional design and the tools needed to assess group performance, integrating a method for peer assessment, and implementing student contracts may have a positive impact on personal attitude. Future research should explore whether these strategies alter the intent to integrate online collaborative activities.Journal ArticlePublished online ahead of prin
