Destination Indiana - U.S.S. Indianapolis Journey
At the ship’s launching party Lucy Taggart, daughter of a former mayor of Indianapolis, christened the ship’s bow with a bottle containing waters from the White River and Fall Creek, both of which flow through the city. In December 1932 she and then Mayor Reginald Sullivan presented the silver service from the battleship USS “Indiana” to the “Indianapolis.” The “Indiana” had seen action in the Spanish- American War and was decommissioned in 1919
Lincoln Automobile Hood Ornament
In the late 1920s, Stant Machine Company, Inc. became known for their design and production of hood ornaments. Under the watchful eye of Henry Ford, Stant produced the radiator ornament for his new Model A. The result was the famous Ford flying quail ornament. Other noted ornaments include the 1937 Packard (modeled after Stant’s daughter), 1932 Pierce-Arrow, 1934 Lincoln, and 1938 Cadillac.Use of image is restricted to projects related to Destination Indiana.
