In cattle, expression of IFN-stimulated genes in the female reproductive tract has been reported as an early pregnancy diagnostic tool, as early as d 17 of pregnancy. The hypothesis of this study was that expression of ISG15 in the cervix of pregnant heifers is increased on d 14 of pregnancy. The objective was to compare the expression of ISG15 in cervical cells between pregnant and cyclic heifers (control, sham-inseminated) on d 14, 16, and 18 after insemination (d 0). Holstein heifers were submitted to an estrus synchronization protocol and inseminated with extender only (“control,” n = 6), or with regular semen (n = 15). Heifers were classified as pregnant (n = 10) by ultrasound at d 30 through the detection of a viable embryo with a heartbeat. Blood samples from the coccygeal vein were collected to determine serum progesterone concentrations on d 14, 16, and 18. The expression of ISG15 and PGR in cervical cells collected through cytobrush was measured on d 14, 16, and 18. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was calculated to quantify the pregnancy diagnostic accuracy of ISG15 and PGR expression. The expression levels of ISG15 in cervical cells were significantly greater in pregnant compared with control heifers on d 14, and remained greater on d 16 and 18, whereas differences in PGR were observed only on d 18. Scatter plots and ROC analyses showed the most accurate prediction of pregnancy for ISG15 on d 16. In conclusion, cervical cells express greater ISG15 mRNA in pregnant versus control heifers as early as d 14 postinsemination, with the best accuracy on d 16

The goal of this work is to promote reflection on the weaknesses, strengths and potential of healthcare waste (HCW) management in Uruguay, based on a case study at the university hospital of Universidad de la República (Udelar). To this end, we draw on some of the most important aspects identified by Ramírez (2022) during the situational diagnosis of intra‑institutional HCW management at the Hospital de Clínicas. Within that diagnostic framework, we carried out a qualitative and quantitative characterization of the HCW generated in various hospital areas. In addition, internal management protocols and training guides were developed for use during training sessions relevant to the implementation of these protocols. The results reveal difficulties in determining HCW generation rates and underscore the importance of staff training. Accordingly, we propose actions to improve HCW management in healthcare centers. At Udelar, each university service at which HCW is generated is responsible for its own management system. Regarding training, students in health‑science degree programs are not offered courses related to the management of HCW generated in their professional activities. In contrast, as part of Udelar’s University Environmental Management Program, the course “Intra‑Institutional Healthcare Waste Management at Udelar” was offered to all staff until 2023

This paper presents the results of an interdisciplinary study at the Universidad de la República (Uruguay), in which hearing loss is assessed in a group of academic musicians, including lyric singers, choristers, and orchestral musicians. Methods: Audiometric records from 137 academic musicians were analyzed. The Average Hearing Loss (PAM) methodology, based on Lafon and Duclos combined with the ISO 1999:2013 Standard, was used to convert all the registers to the hearing loss at the age of 35, which were then organized into a permanence curve and compared with reference curves from the ISO 1999:2013 Standard. Results and Conclusion: The results presented here are estimated to represent more than 27 % of the total population of adult academic musicians nationwide. The findings suggest that academic musicians in Uruguay are at a higher risk of noise-induced hearing loss than the general population in the ISO 1999:2013 Standard

The ballroom cultural movement is a performative movement led by lgbt identities, mainly Latin and African American in its origins. One of the reasons that gave rise to this movement was the marginalization of African descendants and Latin Americans in beauty pageants, which were led by homosexuals who practised dragqueen transformism (drag balls). These events mimicked the form of fashion runways in which participants aimed to demonstrate various social skills that this community believed lgbt people needed in order to fit into this sexually gendered word. This article aims to illustrate some of the findings of an ethnographic research on the ballroom culture movement in Uruguay, specifically the group House of Polenta. The research aimed to understand the ways in which this movement is politically reappropriated and resignified in this context. First, I cover some of the trajectories of the participants in the group and in the vogue dancing. Finally, I use a gender analysis to examine the categories of competition that this cultural performance uses, which I consider key to understanding particular forms of this group’s understanding of gender, body and sexuality.O movimento que se autodenomina cultural ballroom é um movimento cultural performativo com identidades LGBT (lésbicas, gays, bissexuais, trans/travestis/transgêneros), em seu início principalmente trans afro-americanos e latinos.

Objectives: This study aimed to determine the number needed to treat (NNT) of ketorolac in comparison to placebo after third molar surgery. Methods: Studies located in PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science were evaluated with the Cochrane Risk of Bias assessment tool. Data on the onset of analgesia, the number of patients requiring rescue medication, the global or general evaluation of the study medication, and adverse effects were extracted. Data analysis was performed using Review Manager 5.3 software for Windows. Results: The qualitative assessment of the included studies showed that ketorolac was more effective than a placebo and the quantitative evaluation on the onset of analgesia (NNT = 1.6 (95%CIs = 1.4, 1.9), n = 301), the number of patients who took rescue analgesics (NNT = 3.6 (95%CIs = 2.8 to 4.9), n = 563), and the global evaluation of the treatments (NNT = 1.7 (95%CIs = 1.5 to 1.9), n = 475) showed estimates of analgesic efficacy with a statistical difference in favor of ketorolac when compared with a placebo. No statistical difference was observed in adverse effects between ketorolac and placebo (n = 739). Conclusions: There is scientific evidence of moderate quality that allows estimators of the analgesic efficacy of ketorolac to be calculated, which will significantly help the clinician who performs pharmacological treatment after third molar surgery

The dataset includes kinematics data recorded by a Motion Capture System (Vicon Motion System, Oxford, UK) at 100Hz. Data were filtered (fourth-order zero-lag Butterworth low-pass filter with a cutoff frequency of 6 Hz) and exported with Vicon’s Nexus 2.15 software. LW_kinematics_data (JSON Dataset) This dataset contains gait cycle data collected across 24 subjects, lateral walking speeds, and directions. The data is stored as a hierarchical JSON file for ease of parsing, analysis, and expansion. --- Structure The data is organized in four hierarchical levels: Subject ID → Direction → Speed → Cycle Number → Kinematic Variables (markers 3D position) Where: - **Subject ID**: A numeric string (e.g., `"7"`), - **Direction**: `"Left"` or `"Right"`, indicated the direction of lateral movement - **Speed**: Integer string representing the gait speedin hm/h (e.g., `"18"` means 1.8 km/h). Speed values can be easily converted to m/s by dividing for 36 (e.g. 18/36 = 0.5 m/s). - **Cycle Number**: A string ID for each gait cycle (e.g., `"1"`, `"26"`, etc.) Each cycle entry contains a dictionary of 55 sampled variables over time: Frame is an index var - The following variables are grouped by three, and named as right or left (R, L) + the name of the body marker + the axis (e.g. RLOBx, RLOBy, RLOBz, for a total of 9 anatomical positions and 18 markers). LOB = Temporal lobe SH = Acromion ELB = Elbow WR = Ulnar stiloyd process GT = Great Trochanter KN = Knee (lateral) AN = Malleolus lateral HEE = Heel MT = 5th Metatarsal The 3D sapece were calibrated following the right hand rule, with the axis "X" = mediolateral; "Y" = anteroposterior; "Z" = vertical. Values are in mm. --- Example { "7": { "Left": { "45": { "26": { "RLOBx": [61.44, 61.92, 60.88, ...], "RLOBy": [56.09, 56.09, 54.58, ...], ... } } } } } </html

The automatic detection of tree-ring boundaries and other anatomical features using image analysis has progressed substantially over the past decade with advances in machine learning and imagery technology, as well as increasing demands from the dendrochronology community. This paper presents a publicly available dataset of 64 annotated images of transverse sections of commercially grown Pinus taeda L. trees from northern Uruguay, presenting 17 to 24 annual rings. The collection contains several challenging features for automatic ring detection, including illumination and surface preparation variation, fungal infection (blue stains), knot formation, missing bark or interruptions in outer rings, and radial cracking. This dataset can be used to develop and test automatic tree ring detection algorithms. The dataset presented here was used to develop the Cross-Section Tree-Ring Detection (CS-TRD) method, an open-source automated ring-detection algorithm for cross-sectioned images.
