Study of GaN Hall Effect Magnetic Sensors

Get PDF
The GaN Hall sensors are the latest advancements in non-intrusive active monitoring, designed to be integrated on GaN power transistors to enable in-situ condition monitoring, hence boosting device reliability and life. This paper describes step-by-step the basic procedures required for the fabrication of a three-terminal Hall-effect sensor on GaN, challenges and a robust testing method that can deliver consistent results when testing under diverse laboratory external hazards. This work is presenting the first three-terminal current sensing GaN Hall sensor reported in literature, which have been tested at room temperature under various magnetic field intensities and polarities in order to determine its sensitivity. Since even when properly using the most suitable scientific equipment, errors may occur from insufficient information regarding the relative angle between the magnetic field and the active area of the sensor or, data records affected by imperceptible equipment vibrations, this work provides a practical solution on how to detect and mitigate these shortcomings: magnetic quasi-static sources alternatives are discussed and transient recordings of different intensities and polarities of the magnetic field are separated and interpreted similar with the spectrometry diagrams. This comprehensive presented study delivers a consistent testing framework for the new emerging generation of magnetic sensors

Unlocking Circular Economy Opportunities in the Electric Motorcycle Conversion Sector:Insights from Indonesia

Get PDF
The conversion of internal combustion engine motorcycles (ICEMs) to electric motorcycles (EMs) has been introduced to accelerate the electrification of the transportation sector in Indonesia. This study explores the opportunities for applying the circular economy to electric motorcycle conversions to enhance sustainability. A case study research method was used, involving observations and interviews at a certified electric motorcycle workshop. The results show that circularity efforts have been implemented through reuse and repurposing. Reused components include body parts and throttle bodies, while repurposed components include fuel tanks and continuously variable transmission (CVT) engines. However, further consideration is needed for components reused as spare parts for conventional motorcycles, as these may eventually be replaced by electric vehicles

Open-Source Gamification Plug-Ins:A Study on Usability, and User Preferences

Get PDF
In the current educational environment, e-learning and online education have gained significant prominence, especially highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic when their importance increased dramatically. Empirical evidence highlights the undeniable benefits of online learning, with learners globally appreciating the flexibility to access course material at their convenience, free from geographic or time constraints. Despite many companies’ efforts to support online education, some educators are hesitant to fully adopt this new approach. Their concerns revolve around whether online instruction can match traditional classroom teaching's effectiveness, coupled with worries about the financial costs involved in transitioning and the extensive work needed to digitise course materials.Despite these challenges, the integration of gamification plug-ins emerges as a transformative force in online education. Gamification plug-ins play a crucial role in infusing gamified elements and mechanics into online courses or digital content, thereby enhancing engagement, motivation, and overall learning experiences. Gamification involves applying game design principles, such as points, badges, leaderboards, challenges, and rewards, to non-game contexts like education or business. In contemporary application, gamification has evolved to include explicitly game elements such as quizzes, puzzles, narratives, and mini-game techniques as complementary components in enhancing existing online learning environments. By integrating gamification plug-ins into e-learning platforms or content, educators can create a more interactive and enjoyable learning environment, ultimately leading to improved retention and participation. Thus, in the face of the challenges posed by the transition to online learning, strategically incorporating gamification plug-ins presents a promising approach to addressing concerns regarding efficacy and learner engagement in virtual classrooms. This paper aims to explore the efficacy of specific gamification plug-ins through the evaluation of open-source gamification plug-ins from a user-centric perspective, focusing on their usability, and appropriateness. By employing both qualitative and quantitative data collection methods, the research seeks to uncover the reasons behind user preferences and prioritise the plug-ins that best support engagement and functionality in their intended applications. Specifically, the study includes an in-depth review of the relevant literature on gamification in education to position the current investigation within a broader academic context. The gamification tools are assessed by VET trainers, learners, and other stakeholders across five European countries—Poland, Italy, Greece, Cyprus, and the United Kingdom (n=258)—to address the need for practical, effective, and open-source gamification solutions compatible with popular LMS/CMS platforms. This study advances the field by offering a systematic analysis of widely-used gamification plug-ins and providing new insights into how these tools can be applied to foster learner engagement. By situating the findings in the context of prior research, this paper highlights how gamification contributes to learning outcomes in ways that have not been sufficiently explored, filling an existing gap in the literature. The research questions are aligned with the aim of identifying the most user-friendly, open-source plug-ins for gamification and determining their usefulness in creating interactive learning content. Ultimately, these insights can inform the design of more engaging e-learning platforms, improving retention and participation rates.<br/

Dressed Emotions: How Attire and Emotion Expressions Influence First Impressions

Get PDF
Both the way a person dresses and their emotion expressions influence interpersonal perception, yet the combined impact of attire and emotional expressions remains understudied. We investigated how attire, as a signal of status, interacts with emotional expressions to create first impressions. For this, using digital manipulation, faces from a validated dataset were inserted into a matching body, dressed according to the relevant experimental condition and shown from the knees up. Study 1 (N = 102) examined inferences drawn from formal versus casual attire in business and party contexts. Study 2 (N = 849) explored how these dress styles, combined with expressions of anger, sadness, and neutrality, affected observers’ perceptions of the expresser’s traits and emotion expressions across both contexts. Results indicate that even though attire consistently informs inferences about status, dominance, and to a lesser extent, affiliation, across contexts and genders, emotion expressions exert a stronger influence on these judgments. Attire also impacted emotion perception, affecting ratings of secondary emotions and the perceived authenticity of expressions, with emotions of formally dressed individuals perceived as less authentic. These findings suggest that when emotional information is available, observers rely more heavily on it than on stereotypes associated with dress formality or gender. Emotions may take precedence because, unlike attire, they offer insights into the expresser’s momentary state of mind.</p

Assessing the contribution of local journalism:the local newspaper as accidental social infrastructure

Get PDF
The value of local journalism is a pressing question for society because of the challenge posed to established business models by digital platforms. However, while local journalism is understood to be of benefit to people, discussion of the nature of those benefits and the ways in which they are accrued is dominated by a comparatively narrow focus on its outputs. Using the case of the legacy commercial local newspaper, this paper argues that local journalism as a process, practice and presence can be considered part of the accidental social infrastructure—part of the fabric which underpins strong communities, even if its intended purpose is something else. Data drawn from interviews with people working with local newspaper archives demonstrates how local journalism facilitates the development of social capital and processes of sociality. It demonstrates an expanded conceptual lens to articulate its benefits

Get PDF
Background:Identifying factors leading to couple burnout is crucial, especially considering the high prevalence of sexual dysfunction within the first year postpartum. This study addresses the relationship between couple burnout and sexual function. Objectives:The present study aimed to examine the association between couple burnout domains and female sexual function domains within one year after childbirth using structural equation model analysis. Methods:This cross-sectional study utilized a structural equation model for analysis. A total of 352 primiparous mothers, with infants aged two to twelve months, participated. Health centers affiliated with Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran were listed, and 14 centers were randomly selected as recruitment sites. Sampling was conducted through convenience sampling. Data collection included a demographic characteristics form, the Pines Couple Burnout Measure (comprising physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion domains), and the Rosen Female Sexual Function Index (comprising desire, arousal, vaginal lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and pain domains). Descriptive analysis, including mean, standard deviation, frequency, and percentage, was performed using SPSS 16. Inferential statistics were conducted using Smart PLS version 8, employing confirmatory factor analysis with a significance level set at 0.05.Results:A significant inverse correlation was observed between arousal and physical (β = -2.13, P = 0.03) and emotional exhaustion (β = -0.16, P = 0.003), but no correlation was found with mental exhaustion. Additionally, a significant correlation was found between pain and emotional (β = 0.26, P < 0.001), mental (β = 0.31, P < 0.001), and physical exhaustion (β = 0.27, P < 0.001). Desire, lubrication, satisfaction, and orgasm were not associated with any domains of couple burnout. Conclusions:Two sexual function domains, pain and arousal, emerged as predictors of couple burnout during the first two to twelve months postpartum in primiparous mothers. Pain during sexual intercourse was associated with emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion. Low arousal following sexual contact led to high physical and emotional exhaustion. Healthcare providers should prioritize assessing and addressing women’s sexual well-being postpartum

A systematic scoping review of multidisciplinary teamworking in surgical services:the need for bariatric surgery research

Get PDF
This review aims to identify and map the extent and nature of published research investigating multidisciplinary teamworking in surgical services and evaluate the relevance of the evidence base to bariatric surgery. A systematic search of CINAHL, Embase, and Scopus databases was conducted from inception to June 2022, focusing on observational studies that examined multidisciplinary teamworking in surgical services. Data were synthesized narratively. Of the 483 articles screened, eight studies met the inclusion criteria. Most studies focused on oncology teams (n = 4), were conducted in the context of multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings (n = 4), and employed quantitative methodologies (n = 5). Sample sizes for qualitative studies ranged from 11 to 88 participants, while quantitative studies involved 47 to 1,636 participants; where patient cases were the unit of analysis instead, sample sizes ranged from 50 to 298 cases. The composition of professional groups varied across studies, though all included nurses. Despite the widespread recommendation and adoption of multidisciplinary teamworking in surgical care, only eight relevant studies were identified, and none addressed bariatric surgery specifically. These findings highlight a significant gap and underscore the need for further research on multidisciplinary teamworking in surgical services, particularly in the field of bariatric surgery
