Transforming Sikh Spirituality with AI: Opportunities and Challenges

    Get PDF
The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping numerous aspects of human life, including healthcare, education, and entertainment. Spirituality and religion stand out as areas where AI holds transformative potential. Much like the printing press and digital platforms revolutionized the dissemination of religious teachings, AI offers new ways to enhance spiritual engagement. This article explores the intersection of AI, spirituality, and Sikhism, focusing on the opportunities, challenges, and ethical considerations involved

The concept of dignity is proliferating in ethical, legal, and policy discussions of AI, yet dignity is an elusive term with multiple philosophical interpretations. The authors argue that the unspecific and uncritical employment of the notion of dignity can be counterproductive for AI ethics

The Representative Individuals Approach to Fair Machine Learning

    Get PDF
The demands of fair machine learning are often expressed in probabilistic terms. Yet, most of the systems of concern are deterministic in the sense that whether a given subject will receive a given score on the basis of their traits is, for all intents and purposes, either zero or one. What, then, can justify this probabilistic talk? We argue that the statistical reference classes used in fairness measures can be understood as defining the probability that hypothetical persons, who are representative of social roles, will receive certain goods. We call these hypothetical persons “representative individuals.” We claim that what we owe to actual, concrete individuals—whose individual chances of receiving the good in the system might be extreme (i.e., either zero or one)—is that their representative individual has an appropriate probability of receiving the good in question. While less immediately intuitive than other approaches, we argue that the representative individual approach has important advantages over other ways of making sense of this probabilistic talk in the context of fair machine learning

The Evolution of Immersive Technology: A Comparative Study of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR)

    Get PDF
Immersive technologies, particularly Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), have evolved significantly in recent years, shaping a new frontier in human-computer interaction. These technologies are revolutionizing industries such as entertainment, education, healthcare, and retail by providing users with unique and interactive experiences. While AR and VR share similarities, such as enhancing user engagement and providing immersive experiences, they differ significantly in terms of technology, application, and user experience. This paper presents a comparative study of AR and VR, examining their technological foundations, applications, challenges, and potential future developments

Transforming Teacher Education through Leadership and Curriculum Management in the 21st Century

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to investigate the leadership strategies and curriculum management practices of the Program Chair responsible for the Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) and Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) programs at a higher education institution. It focuses on the Program Chair's methods for fostering professional development, supporting faculty growth, and conducting program evaluations. For the methodology, a qualitative case study approach was used, incorporating semi-structured email interviews to collect information about the Program Chair's strategies for curriculum management, faculty development initiatives, and evaluation processes. The research findings indicate that effective leadership, which is rooted in ongoing professional development, collaborative decision-making, and faculty growth, is crucial for successful curriculum management. The study also emphasizes the need to incorporate 21st-century skills, digital literacy, and critical thinking into the curriculum. Furthermore, it shows that strong faculty development programs, including mentorship and professional development opportunities, enhance teaching practices and better equip graduates to meet the challenges of the 21st-century workforce. In conclusion, the study suggests that higher education institutions can greatly benefit from updated curricula, improved faculty development programs, data-driven evaluation systems, and modern learning environments to maintain the success and relevance of their teacher education programs. These recommendations offer practical insights for institutions aiming to enhance their teacher education offerings

Air Pollution and Children’s Health: Why Vulnerability Matters More Than Exposure Alone

    Get PDF
Air pollution is widely recognized as a significant threat to public health, particularly for young children. Yet, recent research by Castillo et al. (2025) reveals that the burden of air pollution is not shared equally among all children. Drawing on comprehensive French administrative data encompassing 336,169 children born between 2008 and 2017, the study finds that children’s health risks from air pollution are strongly shaped by socioeconomic vulnerability and early-life health conditions—rather than pollution exposure alone

Heatwaves and Droughts Are Shaking River Ecosystems

As climate extremes intensify, rivers—critical conduits for global carbon and nutrient cycles—are increasingly vulnerable. A new study by Lyu et al. (2025) reveals how a record-breaking drought-heatwave event in the summer of 2022 dramatically disrupted aquatic plankton communities in China’s Yangtze River, threatening biodiversity, stability, and carbon balance

Exploring The Challenges And Opportunities Of Filipino Learners In Korean Proficiency: A Study Of Language Learning And Adaptation

    Get PDF
This study examined the opportunities and challenges faced by Filipino learners in the newly introduced Korean language course within the Special Program in Foreign Language (SPFL) and its relationship to their proficiency. Using an explanatory sequential method, the research was conducted in three phases. In Phase 1, 32 students took the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK I) and completed a survey. The results indicated that 62.5% passed TOPIK I, suggesting that more than half had a solid grasp of the Korean language. The survey revealed manageable challenges in learning Korean, with a composite mean of 1.85 and a verbal interpretation of “Disagree.” However, thematic analysis in Phase II identified specific challenges, such as difficulties with Korean tenses, particles, vocabulary, and anxiety over making mistakes, which affected students’ comprehension. In contrast, the survey indicated positive opportunities for learning Korean, with a composite mean of 3.57 and a verbal interpretation of “Strongly Agree.” Notable themes included improved college admissions, job prospects, and increased cultural awareness. Data also found no significant relationship between students’ proficiency levels—high or low—and their challenges and opportunities in learning Korean. Based on these findings, an Action Plan was proposed to enhance areas for improvement in Korean language learning for SPFL enrollees, aiming to involve school stakeholders in supporting the development of Korean language skills
