Eksplorasi Kritis Hermeneutika Fazlur Rahman dalam Interpretasi Ayat Riba
Fazlur Rahman’s hermeneutics, particularly his double movement theory, offers a novel approach to understanding Islamic texts, including Qur’anic verses on riba (usury). This approach emphasizes two key stages: first, examining the socio-historical context of the verses at the time of revelation, and second, applying the universal values of these verses in a contemporary setting. Through this method, Rahman seeks to bridge the gap between normative texts (das Sollen) and modern socio-economic realities (das Sein), ensuring that Islamic law remains relevant to changing times. However, his approach has not been without criticism, particularly from traditional scholars who argue that Rahman’s reinterpretation of riba contradicts classical Islamic jurisprudence, which categorically prohibits bank interest. This study evaluates Rahman’s hermeneutics in interpreting riba verses by integrating a historical-critical analysis with contemporary exegetical studies. The findings indicate that while Rahman’s approach provides an alternative perspective on Islamic legal interpretation, careful application of hermeneutical methods is necessary to maintain the fundamental principles of Islamic la
Tafsir al-Ṭabarī dan Riwayat Problematik: Pendekatan Intertekstual dalam Tradisi Naratif menurut McAuliffe
This article examines the story of the Prophet Muhammad’s ﷺ marriage to Sayyidah Zainab bint Jahsh as narrated in QS. al-Aḥzāb: 37–38, employing a narrative-critical approach to Tafsīr al-Ṭabarī, with a primary focus on problematic ḥadīths (al-dakhīl) that have shaped interpretations of the text. One of the contested reports suggests that the Prophet ﷺ fell in love with Zainab after seeing her unveiled—an account that lacks a sound chain of transmission and directly contradicts the doctrinal principle of prophetic infallibility (ma‘ṣūmiyyah). Unlike Isrā’īliyyāt, which stem from Judeo-Christian traditions, these problematic reports originate from within early Islamic narratives and were often transmitted uncritically in classical exegesis. Using Jane Dammen McAuliffe’s framework—emphasizing intertextuality and narrative framing—this study argues that classical tafsīr is not ideologically neutral, but shaped by selective citation and narrative construction that can obscure the theological intent of the Qur’anic text. Accordingly, tafsīr is understood not merely as an exegetical explanation of scripture, but as a discursive space where meaning and authority are continually negotiated. The article concludes that a critical re-reading of the Zainab episode is necessary to cleanse it of unsound reports and to reaffirm its Qur’anic purpose: the abrogation of pre-Islamic adoption practices (tabannī) and the establishment of divine law above inherited social norms

Fazlur Rahman's Thoughts on Islamic Education Reform and Its Significance for the Education System in Indonesia
Islamic education plays a vital role in shaping the personality and civilization of its adherents; however, it is currently grappling with an epistemological and methodological crisis that creates a divide between religious knowledge and general knowledge. Rigid and non-contextual educational approaches further contribute to the stagnation of the Islamic education system. This study adopts a qualitative approach, utilizing a literature review method to gather and analyze both primary and secondary sources related to human freedom from the perspective of Islamic education. A descriptive analytical method is employed both deductively and inductively to achieve a deeper understanding of the topic. The focus of the study is on Fazlur Rahman's ideas concerning the integration of knowledge, curriculum reform, and the transformation of teaching methodologies. Rahman argues for an Islamic education that transcends mere rituals, promoting critical thinking, creativity, and social engagement. He advocates for the integration of *tarbiyah* (moral education) and *ta'lim* (the teaching of knowledge), alongside enhancing teacher capacity and proficiency in foreign languages to expand access to knowledge. Rahman's concepts align well with the principles of the 2013 Curriculum, which emphasizes thematic, integrative, and student-centered learning. This article offers a conceptual framework based on Rahman's insights as a viable solution to the epistemological crisis and serves as a reference for the development of integrative, contextual, and adaptive Islamic education
Exploring the Impact of Self-Esteem and School Climate on Assertive Behavior in Bullying Victims: A Scoping Review
Assertive behavior plays a crucial role for bullying victims in authentically expressing themselves and maintaining self-respect, while a positive school climate fosters identity development and reduces bullying. This study aims to examine the relationships between self-esteem, school climate, and assertive behavior in adolescents. The research employs a systematic literature review with a scoping review approach based on the PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses) protocol. Sources include journal articles and books published within the last ten years, retrieved from databases such as Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Wiley Online Library. Analysis of 30 sources reveals that self-esteem influences assertive behavior, while a research gap exists regarding the correlation between school climate and assertive behavior in adolescents. This study holds significance for adolescents and schools in reducing bullying by emphasizing the role of both personal and contextual factors
Friendship Support and Academic Motivation in First-Generation University Students: Academic Anxiety as a Moderator and Sense of Belonging as a Mediator
In this study, the influence of friendship support on academic motivation with academic anxiety as a moderator and sense of belonging as a mediator was investigated. A cross-sectional quantitative research design was used, with a convenient sample of 240 undergraduate first-generation students (FGS) from a South African university. Data were collected using an online questionnaire comprising four instruments: The Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Psychological Sense of School Membership (PSSM), Anxiety Scale for Undergraduate Students (ASUS) and Academic Motivation Scale (AMS). The simple linear regression analysis results showed that friendship support significantly predicted academic motivation. In addition, the moderation analysis results revealed that academic anxiety did not significantly moderate the relationship between friendship support and sense of belonging. Moreover, the mediation analysis results demonstrated that sense of belonging did not significantly mediate the relationship between friendship support and academic motivation. The findings of the study highlight that FGS should strive to cultivate supportive friendships and enhance feelings of belonging towards their institution to mitigate the adverse effects of academic anxiety and bolster their academic motivation for study success
The Effectiveness of Peer Counseling in Addressing Cyberbullying Among Students in Islamic Boarding School
This study aims to test the effectiveness of peer counseling guidance in reducing cyberbullying behavior among students at the Daar El Syahid Teluknaga Islamic Boarding School, Indonesia. This study used an experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique, with 150 students from a population of 500. The sample was divided into an experimental group, which received peer counseling guidance intervention, and a control group, which received intervention as usual. The research instruments used included the Cyberbullying Behavior Scale, Peer Counseling Effectiveness Questionnaire, Observation Guide, and Interview. Data analysis was carried out using an independent t-test, first testing the assumptions of normality and homogeneity of variance using Kolmogorov-Smirnov or Shapiro-Wilk and Levene's Test. The study showed a significant difference between the experimental and control groups after the intervention, with a substantial decrease in cyberbullying behavior in the experimental group. The results of this study indicate that peer counseling guidance effectively reduces cyberbullying behavior among students. The program successfully raised awareness of the negative impacts of cyberbullying, developed coping strategies, and strengthened empathy and digital ethics among students. The results of this study are expected to be the basis for developing counseling programs in educational institutions to create a safer and more inclusive environment for students
Exploring Problem-Based Learning within Physical Education in Indonesia: A Content Analysis
The Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model plays a crucial role in developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for 21st-century education. This study aims to analyze the content of field research focusing on the application of the PBL model in physical education (PE) in Indonesia. Although numerous articles have been published on PBL, few have conducted content analyses on this topic. Therefore, this study explores the implementation of PBL in Indonesian physical education using a content analysis approach. The research employed a content analysis design, with the primary data source consisting of articles from SINTA-indexed PE journals. A total of 13 articles published between 2006 and 2023 met the criteria for analysis. The findings highlight significant opportunities for further PBL research in Indonesian PE, particularly using qualitative methods. Notably, there is a lack of studies involving grade 9 or 12 students. Most existing research focuses on learning outcomes, uses a variety of intervention types, and frequently relies on questionnaires and test sheets. Additionally, some quasi-experimental studies were found to use inappropriate data analysis techniques. This review provides critical baseline evidence to guide future research and pedagogical innovation in PE by identifying current gaps and methodological limitations in how PBL is applied and studied in Indonesia
