Scaffolding-metacognitive is a strategy to help students understand mathematical material, but some teachers do not yet understand the extent to which they can use the metacognitive scaffolding strategy in the learning process. This study aims to determine teachers' perceptions of the implementation of scaffolding-metacognitive strategies in mathematics learning in secondary schools. Scaffolding-metacognitive strategies, combining step-by-step teaching with the development of students' awareness and control of their thinking processes, Scaffolding-metacognitive strategies are an effective approach to improving students' understanding of complex mathematical concepts and critical thinking skills. This study used a qualitative descriptive method and the participants consisted of 15 mathematics teachers from several high schools in Makassar City and Gowa Regency. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and direct observation during the learning process. We used the Miles & Huberman analysis framework to analyze the collected data, namely: (1) data reduction; (2) data interpretation and condensation; (3) verification and drawing conclusions.. The results of data analysis showed that 60% of teachers did not understand the scaffolding-metacognitive strategy, teachers mentioned several implementation challenges, such as the difficulty of adapting strategies to students' different abilities and limited time to plan and implement learning. In addition, teachers must estimate students' actual and potential knowledge so that teachers can provide scaffolding according to students' needs. Teachers need further support and training to overcome the challenges they face when implementing scaffolding-metacognitive strategies. This research makes an important contribution to the development of more effective educational policies and teacher training programs to improve the quality of mathematics education in secondary schools

    No full text
Stakeholders’ involvement is essential for the successful implementation of any educational innovations, and for a new educational system to succeed, all stakeholders must be part of the process. Research has shown that one of the reasons why educational reforms in Nigeria have not been effectively implemented is as a result of a lack of stakeholder involvement, as the government alone cannot successfully shoulder the responsibility of education reform. For that reason, the aim of this study is to explore the stakeholders that should be involved in the introduction and implementation of system-wide change processes in the Nigerian basic education system. Through the lens of a constructivist research paradigm, the study is located in a generic qualitative research design with the use of one-on-one semi-structured interviews with 38 participants from 12 stakeholder groups for the data collection and the use of qualitative content analysis techniques for analysing the data. The findings of the study present the political class, teachers, reform facilitators, proprietors of private schools, students, parents, the legislature, the government, traditional rulers, religious leaders, NGOs, teacher training institutions, the Nigerian union of teachers, and the ministry of education as the stakeholders that should be involved in educational reform. For the future introduction and implementation of educational change in the Nigerian basic school system to be effective, it is recommended that all stakeholders in education be adequately involved throughout the change effort, from the planning stage to the implementation stage to the evaluation stage

Exploring Theological and Biblical perspectives on wealth and poverty

The subject of wealth and poverty is one of the major themes in the JudeoChristian Scriptures. The continent of Africa is one of the regions hugely affected by poverty. As such, there is an ongoing discourse about the biblical view of wealth and how it may be used in tackling the canker of poverty. At one breath, our contemporary materialistic culture is seducing Christians to accept the idea that poverty is a curse from God, whilst on the other extreme, wealth is viewed as an impediment to entering the kingdom of God. While a complete eradication of poverty remains a formidable challenge, particularly in vulnerable contexts, there exists an opportunity for more concerted efforts to alleviate the plight of the impoverished. As a contribution to the scholarly discourse, this paper examined what the Bible reveals about wealth and poverty and made relevant theological deductions for African church in dealing with wealth and poverty. This is timely against the backdrop that the “centre of gravity” of Christianity is in Africa which makes it befitting to address the menace of poverty from the biblical standpoint. The paper conducted a theological study of relevant biblical passages. The fact that one’s wealth does not necessarily indicate their acceptance by God and the need to share material resources were emphasized. Though the authors had the African continent in mind, the paper also applies to other contexts which share Africa’s socio-economic realities

This research aimed to make an adsorbent from activated carbon/MnO2 (AC/MnO2) composite and examine its characteristics, adsorption capacity, and mechanism for uranyl ions. Carbon was made from Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches (OPEFB) through sodium acetate's carbonization and activation processes. The AC/MnO2 composite was made using the in-situ deposition method, namely by oxidizing Mn2+ compounds to Mn4+ under alkaline conditions at a temperature of ±80°C. An FTIR spectrophotometer was used to characterize the adsorbent, and a UV-Vis spectrophotometer was used to determine the content of uranyl. The results of FTIR analysis showed that MnO2 in Mn-O and Mn-O-Mn absorption was bound to activated carbon. It was also discovered that AC/MnO2 adsorbent reduced uranium content in solution in the form of uranyl ion for adsorbent mass of 2.5 grams and a contact time of 60 minutes, leading to adsorption percentages of 65.5%. The adsorption mechanism followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm equation by forming a single layer. Meanwhile, the adsorption kinetics followed pseudo-second-order with a value of k = 6.7 g/mg.min
