The integration of nursing science and robotics engineering is gaining recognition as a transformative approach to enhancing patient care and well-being across clinical and home care settings. At a leading international conference on robotics and automation, the "Nursing Robots" workshop provided a platform for interdisciplinary collaboration, uniting experts and emerging researchers to explore cutting-edge innovations aimed at ameliorating nursing practices and improving patient outcomes. The workshop featured special lectures and poster presentations, presenting groundbreaking advancements in fields such as nursing care applications, human-robot interaction, and rehabilitation technologies. Highlights included the development of soft actuators for assisting individuals with physical impairments in dressing and undressing, temperature-regulating wearable systems, and robotic platforms for teaching and learning lymphatic drainage techniques. These solutions are designed to provide support and promote patient independence, confidence, and improved symptom management while addressing psychological well-being. A standout innovation was the introduction of a phantom limb model for lymphatic drainage training, which is equipped with real-time pressure feedback for educational purposes. This advancement is highly promising for the enhancement of cancer-related lymphedema management, spanning practices from early posttreatment self-care to palliative care. Although currently limited to laboratory evaluation, this pioneering work represents a critical step toward clinical implementation through interdisciplinary collaboration. The workshop underscored the potential of advanced robotics to revolutionize care quality and education, particularly in addressing the complexities of aging societies. The discussions emphasized the necessity of continued collaboration between the nursing and engineering disciplines to drive innovation and ameliorate patient-centered care.

The Role of the Coordinator Connecting Victims with Volunteers in Disaster Response: Findings through the Experience of the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake
The author’s experience of the 2024 Noto Peninsula Earthquake as a victim led to her support activities in the affected areas. This paper presents an overview of these experiences and activities, the lessons learned from them, and their prospects. The thorough transformation of the landscape of Anamizu-machi, the author’s hometown, brought her deep sadness. However, when the author saw the residents of the town, themselves victims, working for the recovery of the disaster area, she thought she would also like to help her hometown. Initially, she did not know what she should start, so she asked for advice from the instructors of her university and from those working as disaster relief volunteers. She began support activities with her university classmates. As time passed, many things could be done by herself, and seeing the smiles on the faces of the residents gave her confidence. The experience of the disaster, both as a victim and as a supporter, made her realize the importance of the role of the coordinator, who connects the needs of both.departmental bulletin pape
Perinatal Simulation Education: Creation and Use of Rubrics in Educational Practice
In pursuit of a qualitative transformation in university education, the introduction of active learning is being promoted and educational reforms are being advanced to encourage autonomous learning.Consequently, the focus has shifted from “what instructors teach” to “what students have learned,” making the evaluation of learning quality essential. In the midwifery education program considered by this study, simulation education is incorporated into practical exercises as part of active learning.A rubric was created (2021 edition) to evaluate student performance in perinatal simulation exercises (during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period). This paper reports on the creation of the rubric and its application in simulation exercises conducted during the 2021- 2022 academic year.departmental bulletin pape
Training Activities to Support the Transition to Home Care and Enable Individuals to Live Fully in Their Familiar Town Six Years of Collaboration with Four Hospitals in Oku-Noto
We have been conducting training on home care transition support demanded by nurses in Oku-Noto, an area with an aging and declining population, in collaboration with the directors of the nursing departments at four public hospitals. However, as a result of the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake, it is anticipated that the home care transition support system and methods will change due to a shortage of nursing staff and the accelerated aging of the population. Therefore, we have summarized the training activities conducted over the past 6 years and examined the characteristics of home care transition support in Oku-Noto as well as the future direction of both home care transition support and training. Initially, the focus of the training was on how to collaborate with the community to fulfill patients’ wishes, and from the fourth year onward, case discussions on home-based end-of-life care were introduced. One key characteristic that emerged was the concept that “the entire community supports the home transition period,” which includes “the support of hospital nurses and local residents living nearby.” Additionally, it became clear that new approaches to end-of-life care should be created in response to the aging medical workforce. In the future, in preparation for the anticipated increase in the number of elderly patients who may be unable to visit the hospital, it will be necessary to establish a new nursing system within the hospital, including home care services. To this end, it is essential to continue conducting local case discussions.departmental bulletin pape
Mental Chronometry to Chewing and Swallowing Functions
In this study, we attempted to apply mental chronometry (MC) to chewing and swallowing functions. MC has been used for walking and other physical activities evaluation; however, there have been no studies of MC for the eating function. The time taken to eat a peanut (ACST) and to imagine eating a peanut (MCST) were measured in a total of 25 adolescent and adult participants. The correlation coefficient (r) between the ACST and MCST was 0.73. A significant correlation was established in the MC of eating as well as in the MC of walking although the correlation coefficient was slightly lower than that of walking, which was reported in the previous study. However, in contrast to walking, the time required for the mental movement tended to be shorter than that for the actual movement.departmental bulletin pape

with patients during their practicum amid the COVID-19 pandemic and their efforts to overcome
such difficulties. An anonymous self-administered questionnaire survey was conducted online
targeting nursing students after their area-specific practicum in FY2020. The response rate was 55
out of 81 (67.9%), with 54 providing valid responses. Results showed that the most difficult item was
“attracting the patient’s attention by touching them.” The group with only two practicum sessions
felt difficulties in 12 out of 13 items compared to the group with five practicum sessions. The efforts
made by nursing students to understand patients were classified under seven categories, such as
“effort to understand the patientʼs intentions and psychology” and “effort to understand the patient’s
words.” Similarly, efforts to convey the nursing student’s thoughts to patients were classified under
five categories, including “efforts to improve the nursing students’ way of speaking” and “efforts to
improve eye contact and facial expressions.” The results suggest that as nursing students
repeatedly practice and become accustomed to making such efforts to communicate with patients,
it becomes less difficult to communicate with patients.departmental bulletin pape
