Case Series: Confirmed Diphtheria at Sulianti Saroso Infection Center Hospital in The Post-pandemic Period
Background: Diphtheria vaccine coverage decreased during the Covid-19 pandemic. Diphtheria is caused by Corynebacterium diphtheria, which infects the upper respiratory system and produces toxins circulating in the body. The disease was fatal, with a mortality rate higher in children. This study described a case series of confirmed hospitalised diphtheria patients at Sulianti Saroso Infectious Disease Hospital (SSIDH) eighteen months post-pandemic. Objective: to describe epidemiological characteristics, laboratory examinations and outcomes of hospitalised diphtheria patients at SSIDH from January 1st, 2022, to June 31st,2023. Case Presentation: We reported ten confirmed diphtheria cases based on RT-PCR and clinical and epidemiological diagnosis. Of the ten cases, nine were children (<18 years old), six were male patients, and five lived in Jakarta. Based on Albert staining, 9 of 10 samples were found to be bacilli, positive-gram bacteria with metachromatic granular. Result: According to the RT-PCR examination, eight cases were confirmed positive for toxigenic diphtheria, five were a mitis subtype, one was a gravis subtype, and the other four were undetected. Based on clinical examination, eight cases were classified as severe diphtheria, five cases included myocarditis, and three patients passed away. Pediatric cases dominated diphtheria cases. RT-PCR examinations are more accurate and specific to finding toxigenic subtypes in the Jakarta Metropolitan Area. Conclusion: The detection of diphtheria cases in adult’s highlights concerns about adult immunity and awareness of vaccination. Vaccination campaigns and booster shots are essential, alongside continuous surveillance and accurate testing to prevent a resurgence of the disease
Pengaruh Pendidikan dan Penggangguran Terhadap Kemiskinan di Jakarta Timur
Countries around the world, especially in developing countries, are struggling with poverty. The definition of poverty is a complex problem that is influenced by several interrelated elements, such as unemployment rates and education levels, and whether or not these issues have an impact on poverty, especially in East Jakarta. This study aims to determine the relationship between unemployment and education with poverty in East Jakarta from 2018 to 2022. Secondary data used in this study comes from time series data, namely information from the East Jakarta Central Statistics Agency regarding community unemployment, the number of poor people, and the gross participation rate at the high school level in East Jakarta. Using the Eviews12 application, multiple linear regression analysis was used to process the data. The findings of this study indicate that, at the same time, the level of education significantly reduces poverty in East Jakarta
The Hidden Harvest: Unlocking Efficiency in East Java’s Farming Sector
The agricultural sector is crucial for meeting global food and nutritional needs, with East Java Province in Indonesia having the highest yields and being the safest sector from the pandemic. To maximize land area, land efficiency is essential, using superior seed varieties, chemical fertilizers, efficient irrigation systems, and modern agricultural tools. This research focuses on the agricultural community in Trawas Mojokerto and the efficiency of agricultural land in Duyung Village. Most farmers use sickles, hoes, animals, simple machines, and tractors for agriculture. A survey of 100 farmers in Duyung Village revealed that 44 people use sickles as traditional tools, while 23 use livestock for ploughing. Tractors are used for efficiency and energy savings but are rarely used due to lack of counseling from government institutions. Technological tools are used for specific soil types and must be rented before use. The majority of farmers need counseling to learn about the latest tools, and government assistance is lacking. The study also found that 68.9% of farmers do not use printed rice seeds, while 31.1% use them. Long rice seeds are preferred due to their quality and resistance to pests. The majority of farmers use direct soil irrigation systems, which vary in soil fertility levels. Fertilizer use varies, with 77.8% using urea and 20% using compost and urea. The Duyung Village community is efficient in land management, with most farmers understanding the importance of efficiency
