Divenire anziani in diaspora: profili migratori e prospettive di invecchiamento in un confronto tra Italia e Tunisia - Getting Old into Diaspora: migration profiles and prospects for aging in a comparison between Italy and Tunisia

    No full text
This paper presents the initial results of an ethnographic investigation aimed at analyzing the phenomenon of ‘transnational’ or ‘diasporic’ aging through the migration trajectories of elderly members of the Tunisian diaspora in Italy and, conversely, the Italian diaspora in Tunisia. The research collects life histories, highlighting a complex landscape of experiences, and seeks to position different categories of diasporic aging along a continuum between social disadvantage and privilege. Finally, the intersectional analysis examines the influences of class, gender, and social capital

“Ritornare” nella post-migrazione: narrazioni sull’abitare translocale a Serino (AV) - Post-Migration “Return”: Translocal Living Narratives from Serino (AV), Italy

    No full text
This article presents preliminary findings from ethnographic research in Serino (Southern Italy), examining post-migration returns as multidirectional, translocal processes. Rather than definitive endpoints, return mobilities emerge as intergenerational practices of reterritorialization. Through life histories, the study explores how identities, belonging, and place are negotiated across temporal and spatial scales, reshaping localities through memory, affect, and transnational entanglements

Donne musulmane nei luoghi di preghiera a Lecce: una questione aperta - Muslim Women in Lecce’s Prayer Spaces: A topic of ongoing discussion

    No full text
Muslim places of worship in Southern Italy are characterized by low participation of women. This article examines this absence based, drawing on research that examines the processes of constructing female sociality within multiple social fields. Based on research conducted at two places of worship in the city of Lecce, highlighting a positive relationship on one side between women’s associations and women’s presence, and on the other side, between the composition of migratory flows from Arab or predominantly Muslim countries – mainly male – and the limited presence of families. Women’s participation becomes significant in organizing public events related to the process of community anchoring of migrant groups in urban spaces and in building dialoguing communities

Dalla biblioteca personale al fondo Amalia Signorelli - From the Personal Library to the Amalia Signorelli Book Fund: I percorsi intellettuali di un’antropologa e la riproduzione del sapere antropologico - The intellectual paths of an Anthropologist and the reproduction of the anthropological knowledge

    No full text
The article describes the establishment of the Amalia Signorelli book fund, in 2024, at The Orientale University of Naples, derived from a donation from her personal library. The analysis highlights connections of meanings and life between books, research, and works produced by the author intertwining in some of her scientific and existential paths. From a perspective that recalls Geertz, the fund becomes fertile ground for a reflection on scientific production and life paths grafted into anthropological writing. The article first shows the reasons for the choice of the fund’s location, then some connections between volumes of the library and the author’s research areas, characterized by innovation and interdisciplinarity. Finally, considering the current transformations that affect books and paper sources, it underlines the need to preserve and pass on book heritage, such as the fund discussed here, which is useful both for gaining a historical perspective and carrying out new research in the future

Il ruolo sociale della midwife nel Gambia contemporaneo: significare la cura tra approccio biomedico e sapere islamico - The Social Role of the Midwife in Contemporary Gambia: Giving Meaning to Care Between Biomedical Approach and Islamic Knowledge

    No full text
This contribution discusses the role of the midwife within an urban Gambian area. Focusing on the context where Traditional Birth Attendants (TBA) operate I underline different tasks that they take up especially among nulliparous women who turn to their knowledge to ask for help, suggestions and spiritual healing. Special attention will be drawn to the relationships between global health policies and other emic definitions of care incorporated in the Islamic discourse and in conversations held with my informants. I argue that for a complete understanding of these influences it is fundamental to take into consideration the historical events that today led TBAs to adopt either model depending on specific situations and needs

Nuovi cittadini di origine maghrebina e ridefinizione di spazi urbani e religiosi a Umbertide (Perugia) - New Citizens of Maghreb Origin and the Redefinition of Urban and Religious Spaces in Umbertide (Perugia)

    No full text
The contribution investigates dwelling practices and spatial uses of the public space as observed through ethnographic fieldwork carried out in Umbertide, in the Upper Tiber Valley. Over the years, the town has seen a significant increase in the presence of North African immigrants, coming from different geographical areas and belonging to various age groups; a presence that, while elusive in some respects, is clearly visible in the forms of appropriation and use of certain places, which are affected by transient and permanent changes that necessitate new reading codes. The construction of a mosque, now suspended for economic and political reasons, marked a fracture within the urban population. Observing these transformations and questioning the new spatial grammars allows us to grasp overlapping and intersecting habitats of meaning, generating possible connections and transforming practices and strategies of living

Donne sikh e diaspora: intrecciare casa, comunicazioni e legami nella Val di Chiana senese - Sikh Women and Diaspora: Weaving Home, Communications, and Bonds in the Sienese Val di Chiana

    No full text
This paper explores homemaking practices among Sikh women in rural Tuscany, highlighting how domestic spaces become key sites of diasporic identity, negotiation, and resistance. Through ethnographic narratives, it shows how women reconfigure family hierarchies and gender roles while rooting their presence in marginal territories. Homes and objects emerge as agents of transformation, where care, control, and belonging intersect. The rural diaspora becomes a space of possibility, rearticulated through everyday practices
