A questionnaire survey was conducted among contactable 110 out of 173 master’s program graduates at Nagano College of Nursing to understand their trends and support needs following graduation. The number of respondents was 35 (31.8% response rate). Many of the graduates were working as nurses when they completed their master’s program; however, a large number of them work in the educational field currently. Many changed their careers by shifting from clinical settings to educational or research settings. From the survey, we received a variety of responses to the question “What you learned at graduate school has helped you in your career?” including “I have become able to understand diverse ways of thinking” and “The foundation of my learning at graduate school has led to lifelong learning.” With regard to what the respondents gained from the education they received while attending graduate school, over 90% agreed with items such as “I have acquired the ability to continue to study as a professional” and “I have acquired the ability to learn independently to solve problems.” Furthermore, most other questions received a positive response. Therefore, we can say that our graduate school contributes to the development of human resources that can perform advanced nursing practice, research, and provide education.departmental bulletin pape

Recently, it has been suggested to that people should prevent the spread of COVID-19, by measures such as wearing a mask and keeping a distance from each other, but these precautions have caused difficulties in communication. In this study, we investigated conversations among college students in Japan during the COVID-19 pandemic and discussed ways of overcoming conversational difficulties. First, we administered an online survey to college students regarding conversations during the COVID-19 pandemic. They reported having difficulties in talking to others and felt that in-person conversation was very important to them. Second, after the relaxing of restrictions in some parts of Japan, we repeated the survey. The frequency of in-person conversations had increased from earlier, but they still found it difficult to understand what others said. Consequently, we should pay attention to others in conversations and speak to them clearly, using verbal and non-verbal means of communication.departmental bulletin pape

This study is aims to clarify research trends and knowledge regarding single mothers by reviewing Japanese literature on single mothers' pregnancy, childbirth, and the initial year of childcare. It also aims to examine research issues related to public health nurses' assistance to these single mothers. We searched the literature using the bibliographic online database, Japan Medical Abstract Society (Ver. 5), and identified 26 relevant papers. Upon analysis, it was evident that many studies focus on support-related topics within the perinatal medical and nursing domains. The knowledge obtained about single mothers was divided into categories such as “socioeconomic basis,” “continuous visits to medical institutions,” and “perceptions of pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare.” These categories showed the difficulties single mothers face and their positive attitude. Therefore, it is crucial to comprehend and support the holistic—physical, mental, and social—health of single mothers. Further, this study suggests that more research should be conducted on single mothers and their specific needs, especially concerning the support provided by public health nurses.departmental bulletin pape

A web-based anonymous questionnaire survey was conducted on 264 nurses who completed the Certified Nurse (CN) course in Nagano College of Nursing (NCN) to investigate the roles of nurses in their workplace, the educational evaluation for their career development and progress, and how NCN should assist education for the CN course or students who have completed the CN course. The number of respondents was 89 (33.7%) , of whom 63 (70.8%) continued to work as CN in their specialized fields, and 54 (60.7%) held managerial or managerial assistant roles. Meanwhile, the rate of working hours per day as a CN was still low: 21.4% were covered all of their working hours, 20.2% accounting for 80% or more of their working hours. The respondents also continued studying to strengthen their professional abilities, attending graduate schools or other CN courses, or acquiring various licenses and qualifications. However, they could not sufficiently establish networks with NCN or college alumni. In addition to further promoting the introduction and utilization of ICT, the deliberate and continuous engagement is absolutely imperative while students are in NCN’s CN course so that they can build connections proactively and organically.departmental bulletin pape
