    Characterization of DC performance and low-frequency noise of an array of nMOS Forksheets from 300 K to 4 K

    The DC and low-frequency noise performance of an array of 800 parallel Forksheet MOSFETs were investigated by performing measurements over a wide temperature range from 300 K to 4 K. The array structure allowed to measure a representative average performance of the devices and provided a large effective area for 1/f noise analysis. Results showed an improvement in the saturation drain current when going from room temperature to cryogenic temperatures, with the subthreshold swing saturating around 100 K and the threshold voltage shifting by approximately 150 mV, following similar trends observed in Silicon cryogenic electronics. Additionally, the study confirms that the noise at cryogenic temperatures does not follow the commonly assumed linear scaling with temperature. This deviation from the linear scaling has been associated with the presence of tail states at the interface in bulk and silicon-on-insulator (SOI) devices. These results suggest that the excess 1/f noise in this advanced device architecture is not related to the device architecture but rather to the microscopic material properties of semiconductor/dielectric interfaces

    The Role of Haptics in Training and Games for Hearing-Impaired Individuals: A Systematic Review

    Sensory substitution and augmentation are pivotal concepts in multi-modal perception, particularly when confronting the challenges associated with impaired or missing sense rehabilitation. The present systematic review investigates the role of haptics for the hearing impaired in training or gamified activities. We applied a set of keywords to the Scopus® and PubMed® databases, obtaining a collection of 35 manuscripts spanning 23 years. Each article has been categorized following a documented procedure and thoroughly analyzed. Our findings reveal a rising number of studies in this field in the last five years, mostly testing the effectiveness of the developed rehabilitative method (77.14%). Despite a wide variety in almost every category we analyzed, such as haptic devices, body location, and data collection, we report a constant difficulty in recruitment, reflected in the low number of hearing-impaired participants (mean of 8.31). This review found that in all six papers reporting statistically significant positive results, the vibrotactile device in use generated vibrations starting from a sound, suggesting that some perceptual aspects connected to sound are transmittable through touch. This fact provides evidence that haptics and vibrotactile devices could be viable solutions for hearing-impaired rehabilitation and training

    Observation of Wγγ triboson production in proton-proton collisions at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    This letter reports the observation of W(lν)γγ production in proton-proton collisions. This measurement uses the full Run 2 sample of events recorded at a center-of-mass energy of s=13 TeV by the ATLAS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1. Events with a leptonically-decaying W boson and at least two photons are considered. The background-only hypothesis is rejected with an observed and expected significance of 5.6 standard deviations. The inclusive fiducial production cross section of W(eν)γγ and W(μν)γγ events is measured to be σfid=13.8±1.1(stat)+2.1−2.0(syst)±0.1(lumi) fb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction

    Mechanochemistry: A Green and Fast Method to Prepare a New Generation of Metal Supported Catalysts

    In this review, we report on recent advances in the use of mechanochemistry to synthesise new catalytic materials. We report recent results obtained by our groups where a rational design of the milling parameters led to the synthesis of advanced materials with novel properties such as unconventional arrangements of metals on the surface of oxide support materials, highly dispersed metals or the stabilisation of species in particular oxidation states. These properties resulted in superior catalytic performances of the mechanochemically-synthesised catalysts compared to their counterparts prepared by traditional impregnation methods. To illustrate these advances, we review the progress made in two important fields of catalysis where noble metals are used: (i) emission control catalysis using palladium-based materials; (ii) the development of photocatalysts to produce hydrogen based on gold and palladium materials

This can affect the grade group assigned, particularly when there are only two Gleason patterns in a cancer nodule. We therefore argue that the term "tertiary" should be changed to "minor" component

    Understanding the cultural landscape of the Stella River through underwater archaeology

    The Stella River was, in antiquity, the most important watercourses of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, its relevance residing in that it connected the Alps to the Adriatic Sea. This function was facilitated by the fact that the Stella is a resurgence river, thus ensuring a sufficient flow rate to be sailed along all year round. The Anaxum Project, a partnership between the University of Udine and the local Archaeological Superintendence, aims to reconstruct the history of the Stella River basin focusing on human-landscape relationships through time. At the same time, the river is also used as a laboratory for the training of future underwater archaeologists. The archaeological excavations conducted in the river between 2011 and 2022 concerned the remains of the bridge of the via Annia (II bce) and a shipwreck area (I-II ce), which include a sewn barge, as well as the remains of a medieval wreck (XI-XIII ce). This chapter will present the study of the cultural landscape of the Stella River in Roman times, in particular through the results of the ten seasons of underwater and nautical archaeological research

    Impact of Disease-Modifying Therapies on Gut–Brain Axis in Multiple Sclerosis

    Multiple sclerosis is a chronic, autoimmune-mediated, demyelinating disease whose pathogenesis remains to be defined. In past years, in consideration of a constantly growing number of patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, the impacts of different environmental factors in the pathogenesis of the disease have been largely studied. Alterations in gut microbiome composition and intestinal barrier permeability have been suggested to play an essential role in the regulation of autoimmunity. Thus, increased efforts are being conducted to demonstrate the complex interplay between gut homeostasis and disease pathogenesis. Numerous results confirm that disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) used for the treatment of MS, in addition to their immunomodulatory effect, could exert an impact on the intestinal microbiota, contributing to the modulation of the immune response itself. However, to date, the direct influence of these treatments on the microbiota is still unclear. This review intends to underline the impact of DMTs on the complex system of the microbiota–gut–brain axis in patients with multiple sclerosis

    The Oxford Nanopore MinION as a Versatile Technology for the Diagnosis and Characterization of Emerging Plant Viruses

    The emergence of novel viral epidemics that could affect major crops represents a serious threat to global food security. The early and accurate identification of the causative viral agent is the most important step for a rapid and effective response to disease outbreaks. Over the last years, the Oxford Nanopore Technologies (ONT) MinION sequencer has been proposed as an effective diagnostic tool for the early detection and identification of emerging viruses in plants, providing many advantages compared with different high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technologies. Here, we provide a step-by-step protocol that we optimized to obtain the virome of "Lamon bean" plants (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), an agricultural product with Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) in North-East of Italy, which is frequently subjected to multiple infections caused by different RNA viruses. The conversion of viral RNA in ds-cDNA enabled the use of Genomic DNA Ligation Sequencing Kit and Native Barcoding DNA Kit, which have been originally developed for DNA sequencing. This allowed the simultaneous diagnosis of both DNA- and RNA-based pathogens, providing a more versatile alternative to the use of direct RNA and/or direct cDNA sequencing kits
