The meaning of ‘frustration’ across languages
Semantic equivalence in the affective domain is always a matter of degree, even for the words that may seem uncontroversial. For example, a word may be quoted in dictionaries as the semantic equivalent of another word and be used in practice as its most frequent translation equivalent, and yet those two words may significantly differ in meaning. This study focuses on one such case – that of the English term frustration and its cognates in Spanish (frustración), French (frustration) and German (Frustration). Using data from corpora and self-report, we find that, while frustration terms in Spanish, French and German reflect a cross-culturally stable type of low-power anger, or can denote affective experiences other than anger, English frustration refers to a prototypical anger experience characterized by high power. Converging evidence is presented from two psycholinguistic and two linguistic studies employing elicited and observational data. We offer a possible explanation for the observed semantic differences based on psychological appraisal theory and cross-cultural psychology. The novelties and limitations of our findings are discussed, along with their implications for researchers in the affective sciences.</p

Hundred years of corporate planning. From industrial capitalism to intellectual monopoly capitalism through the lenses of the Harvard Business Review (1922–2021)
This article reopens the issue of corporate planning (CP) by exploring its evolving role in capitalism. We analyze the content of Harvard Business Review from its foundation in 1922 until 2021, using text mining and network analysis techniques. Our results show that CP remains at least as crucial in the age of intellectual monopoly capitalism as in the age of industrial capitalism dominated by the integrated modern corporation. Yet, we identify qualitative transformations in CP regarding its purpose, its means, the type of knowledge predominantly mobilized, and its temporality
Intraoperative contrast-enhanced cone beam CT allows visualization of the 'dark side' of the clot and improves mechanical thrombectomy performance
Background: Visualization of the clot is key to the endovascular treatment of ischemic stroke, but identification of the distal part of the clot and distal arteries during mechanical thrombectomy (MT) remains challenging with conventional intraoperative imaging. We aimed to leverage the potential of contrast-enhanced cone beam CT (CE-CBCT) to better visualize the distality ('dark side') of the clot.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed all patients treated with MT for medium vessel occlusion (MeVO) guided by three-dimensional (3D) imaging to identify those who underwent either CE-CBCT or 3D rotational angiography (3DRA). Our primary outcome was the visualization of the proximal and distal edges of the clot and the arteries beyond the occlusion on the different types of intraoperative imaging: digital subtraction angiography (DSA), 3DRA, and CE-CBCT. Secondary outcomes included the efficacy, safety, and timing of MT between CE-CBCT versus 3DRA groups.
Results: The proximal edge of the clot was well visualized by DSA, 3DRA, and CE-CBCT. However, the distal edge of the clot and distal arteries were significantly better visualized with CE-CBCT (60.0%) than 3DRA (2.7%) and DSA (11.4-13.5%). Moreover, MT efficacy was better with CE-CBCT than 3DRA, with higher first-pass effect (65.7% vs 37.8%) and final recanalization grade (expanded Treatment In Cerebral Infarction (eTICI) 3: 71.4% vs 43.2%). Finally, the visualization of the distal edge of the clot and distal arteries correlated with better collateralization grade.
Conclusion: CE-CBCT localizes the clot and reveals the underlying vascular anatomy better than 3DRA or DSA, thereby enhancing the efficacy of MT. The improved filling of collaterals with CE-CBCT may explain this better visualization of the 'dark side' of the clot.</p
7T MRI in the evaluation of ischemic stroke : a systematic review
Introduction : 7T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has advanced in managing neurological and neurovascular diseases. With improved spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio, 7T MRI enhances spatial and functional imaging, benefiting ischemic stroke diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment planning.
Methods : To highlight the advances made with ultra-high field MRI in the evaluation of ischemic stroke patients, a systematic review was conducted on the MEDLINE and Web of Science databases using PRISMA guidelines to find peer-reviewed articles from January 1, 1992, to September 1st, 2024. Search terms included “ischemic stroke,” “7T,” “ultra-high field,” “vessel,” “angiography,” and “MRI.” Studies on 7T MRI in adult ischemic stroke patients were included; exclusions were non-human, post-mortem, or pediatric studies.
Results : We identified 16 studies on the use of 7T MRI for prolonged periods after stroke symptom onset, highlighting its higher spatial resolution for depicting ischemic lesions and vascular imaging. Vessel wall imaging (VWI) at 7T was effective for assessing vascular alterations post-thrombectomy and evaluating atherosclerotic lesions, with notable applications in identifying culprit plaques and studying glutamate metabolism changes.
Conclusion : 7T MRI advancements open new perspectives for clinical applications and research, particularly in evaluating the impact of thrombectomy strategies and developing treatments to prevent stroke recurrence. Continued research and protocol validation are essential for integrating 7T MRI into routine practice, improving management of neurological and neurovascular diseases.</p
Assessment of elapsed time between dental radiographs using Siamese network
Recently, machine learning methods have emerged to predict dental disease progression, often relying on costly annotated datasets and frequently exhibiting low generalization performance. This study evaluates the application of Siamese networks for detecting subtle changes in longitudinal dental x-rays and predicting the time span category between dental treatments using periapical radiographs and patient demographic data. We assume that the ability of these models to detect the time intervals between dental treatments would ensure their capability to identify more complex patterns related to disease progression. The baseline models based on CNNs and MLP achieved moderate performance, while the Siamese network models demonstrated significant improvements, with the highest-performing model achieving an accuracy of 86.32% ± 1.60%. Moreover, the introduction of demographic features such as age and gender into the model led to a significant reduction in performance variance. These results underscore the effectiveness of Siamese networks in capturing subtle temporal changes in dental radiographs in longitudinal settings, offering the potential to integrate these models into clinical workflows. Future research will explore self-supervised learning models for dental disease progression, especially in clinical settings with limited labeled data
