A Strategy For The Presentation Of The Principles Of Christian Stewardship To The Seventh-day Adventist Churches In South America

Problem In the SDA Church in South America there are deficiencies in three clearly defined aspects of the educative phase of stewardship campaigns: (1) in the unilateral presentation of the doctrine of stewardship, (2) in the methods and procedures used in that presentation, and (3) in the persons that receive the benefits of said presentation. In this project, the problem of how to improve the efficiency of stewardship education is discussed. Method The purpose of this research is to develop and evaluate a series of Christian stewardship meetings that differs from the series now in use in South America in its educational focus. The project is organized in two main parts. The first is a search for socio-economic, cultural-religious, and biblical-theological foundations for Christian stewardship in the South American context. The second part deals with the strategies, methods, and techniques used in the proposed stewardship meetings. Results The results obtained from three instruments applied to the members of the three churches exposed to the new method, indicated that a positive change in intellectual comprehension, in feelings and attitudes toward stewardship, and in the practice of Christian stewardship followed the meetings. At the same time, several suggestions are considered that might contribute to the further improvement of the meetings. While this study does not provide the answer to all the deficiencies of Christian stewardship education in the SDA Churches of South America, it does open additional areas of study for further research

    SPS Vertical Aperture Studies

We present the results of a series of measurements carried out in order to study the SPS physical aperture in the vertical plane. A vertical kick was applied to the circulating beam while introducing a closed orbit bump at the location of the SPS high energy beam dump absorber (TIDVG) that was suspected of limiting the aperture asymmetrically. Beam intensity and transverse prole measurements, performed before and after the kick, were combined to estimate the aperture

The likeability of populism on social media in the 2018 Italian general election

This article focuses on the controlled communication that the main Italian political leaders – Silvio Berlusconi, Luigi Di Maio, Pietro Grasso, Giorgia Meloni, Matteo Renzi, Matteo Salvini – published on their Facebook profiles during a period of four weeks before the election day. Taking the 2018 Italian general election campaign as an illustration, this article aims at clarifying whether and to what extent populist communication on Facebook differ from non-populist communication in terms of volume and success. Facebook was selected as the source, since digital politics and social media are becoming increasingly relevant for both political parties and citizens. The article shows that messages containing populist claims have more success (i.e. more ‘likes’) compared to non-populist messages. It also shows that populist posts against the elites or the immigrants are the largest ones, while the more successful ones are those that combines these latter elements with the appeal to the people

High Accuracy Field Mappings with a Laser Monitored Travelling Mole

The LEP Spectrometer is an alternative method adopted to predict the LEP beam Energy. A bending magnet is flanked on either side by tgree beam position monitors /BPM) used to determine thedeflection angle of the beam. In order to reach the desired accuracy on the beam energy a relative precision of a few 10-5 on the magnetic field intefral is necessary. The magnet is a full-iron core dipole, 5.75 m long, of the MBI type used in the LEP injection region. It has been specially designed in order to have high field uniformity

European versus Domestic Politics: Media Negativity during the 2019 European Elections Campaign in Italy

This article aims at understanding to what extent European issues and actors are covered through a negative tone within the news coverage of the 2019 EP election campaign in Italy. We rely on an original dataset based on content analysis of the 50 days prior to the 2019 EP elections in four mainstream newspapers (n=3,943) and four mainstream TV newscasts (n=1,873). Our findings show that the media negativity is primarily associated with domestic politics, while all in all European politics is covered using a less negative tone. This general picture is the results of two differentiated patterns: newspapers are less negative towards both EU politics and Eu and foreign political actors, while TV news are more negative towards Eu and foreign political actors

The Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Immuno-Suppression by Human Type 1 Regulatory T Cells

The immuno-regulatory mechanisms of IL-10-producing type 1 regulatory T (Tr1) cells have been widely studied over the years. However, several recent discoveries have shed new light on the cellular and molecular mechanisms that human Tr1 cells use to control immune responses and induce tolerance. In this review we outline the well known and newly discovered regulatory properties of human Tr1 cells and provide an in-depth comparison of the known suppressor mechanisms of Tr1 cells with FOXP3+ Treg. We also highlight the role that Tr1 cells play in promoting and maintaining tolerance in autoimmunity, allergy, and transplantation

The Yin and Yang of Type 1 Regulatory T Cells: From Discovery to Clinical Application

Regulatory T cells are essential players of peripheral tolerance and suppression of inflammatory immune responses. Type 1 regulatory T (Tr1) cells are FoxP3- regulatory T cells induced in the periphery under tolerogenic conditions. Tr1 cells are identified as LAG3+CD49b+ mature CD4+ T cells that promote peripheral tolerance through secretion of IL-10 and TGF-β in addition to exerting perforin- and granzyme B-mediated cytotoxicity against myeloid cells. After the initial challenges of isolation were overcome by surface marker identification, ex vivo expansion of antigen-specific Tr1 cells in the presence of tolerogenic dendritic cells (DCs) and IL-10 paved the way for their use in clinical trials. With one Tr1-enriched cell therapy product already in a Phase I clinical trial in the context of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), Tr1 cell therapy demonstrates promising results so far in terms of efficacy and safety. In the current review, we identify developments in phenotypic and molecular characterization of Tr1 cells and discuss the potential of engineered Tr1-like cells for clinical applications of Tr1 cell therapies. More than 3 decades after their initial discovery, Tr1 cell therapy is now being used to prevent graft versus host disease (GvHD) in allo-HSCT and will be an alternative to immunosuppression to promote graft tolerance in solid organ transplantation in the near future
