ODGOJ ZA STAROST KAO MOGUĆNOST EMANCIPACIJE

    Get PDF
U zadnjih dvjesto godina život ljudi podložan je mnogim promjenama. Najvažnija među njima je stalno ubrzanje svih zbivanja u čovjekovom životu, Å”to iziskuje izuzetnu plastičnost u ponaÅ”anju i otvorenost u shvaćanju svijeta.

Leadership styles determine proactivity of employees - A vesselā€™s example

A crisis event is out of the incidence that is stressful to many people. Stressor as an objective event causes stress in an individual however the level of stress is differently experienced. The affected individuals feel that they cannot fight a crisis event with common mechanisms of dealing. Leadership styles of managers in a large degree determine the proactivity of employees in the crisis events. There can be differentiated transactional, transformational and transcendental leadership. Historically, transactional leadership had been dominated over the years on board. Nowadays, there are more accents on transformational, or even transcendental leadership. Thus, different types of check-lists are introduced to increase situational awareness amongst employees especially in emergency situations. There are also different training and drills scenarios that cover different types of crisis events where employee affected learn how to react well trained and routinely. Familiarization with the anticipated situation, and ā€œknow what to doā€ in the real one, decreases the level of stress among individuals, and helps to react much calmer and focused. In this paper it was analyzed what is increasing individual resources to deal with stressful situation. In addition, individual reaction depends on the hierarchyā€™s structure aboard; concretely leadership styles determine the proactivity of employees, which can be crucial in emergency situations. Research should be continued in the more practical examples from different types of vessels (eg through polls among seamen who are experienced in various emergencies) where it would be possible to find what is increasing individual resources to deal with stressful situations, and what kind of leadership is preferred by crewmembers, traditional or neoteric ones

Of West, Quests and Bullwhips: George Boweringā€™s Caprice Rides through the Western Genre

    Get PDF
George Boweringā€™s novel Caprice (1987) generally conforms to the literary code of the western genre, although both its form and content surpass those of a typical western. This article will focus on the novelā€™s departures from the western, particularly its deconstruction of the grand narratives of history and the related myth of the Wild West. It will do this through the introduction of multiple alternative histories and perspectives, in the form of fragmented narratives and diverse conceptions of time and place, addressing: the differentiation between American and Canadian myths of the Wild and Mild West respectively, which reflect the distinct ideologies and histories of inception of these bordering countries; the deconstruction of the western genre through postmodern play with western tropes, such as the concepts of cowboy, Indian, the West, guns, and violence; and its engagement in the metatextual play with history and narrative. The aim is to show that Boweringā€™s Capriceā€”a parody of the western genre written on the cusp of Canadian postmodernismā€”functions as palimpsest of the new (Canadian) western

Urban heritage reconsidered: Redefining the planning approach to historical areas of Novi Sad

    Get PDF
The beginning of the 21st century was marked by significant socio-economic changes in Serbia, which influenced urban environment and development strategies. Novi Sad, the capital of the Serbian province of Vojvodina, also followed this pattern, adjusting to the new social and spatial dynamic. The shift from a socialist to a neo-liberal model of planning was visible in different spheres - the system of stakeholders was altered, public funds were substituted with small private investors, while existing regulations were either overlooked or interpreted in a questionable manner. Simultaneously, the newly established real estate market mostly focused on the areas around the traditional urban core which underwent a process of quasi-regeneration. Used only as an opportunity for new speculative development, it did not have any respect for either tangible or intangible heritage. However, a decline in real estate development (since 2009) has created a setting for a different planning approach to include consideration of problems of heritage areas. Considering the socio-economic background of recent urban transformations in Novi Sadā€™s inner-city neighborhoods, this article analyses the context of the problem, provides recommendations for improvements in the approach to planning, and introduces guidelines and rules for site-sensitive urban and architectural design

To liberate or to regulate: Balanced approach to bank-oriented financial system transformation in developing countries

Ā© Emira Kozarević, Nedžad Polić, Amela Perić, 2017. A stable, transparent financial system inspires confidence among investors and supports the overall economic growth. Inflexible regulation tends to slow down economic progress, making countries less attractive to investors. Economies with bank-oriented financial systems tend to be less attractive to investors, so their long-term goal is to demonstrate flexibility through liberalization, attracting new investors and ensuring survival in highly competitive and unforgiving global conditions. Liberalization success is even more essential for developing countries and their efforts to open the borders for capital flows and attract new investments. While financial liberalization affects all sectors of the economy and directly influences growth, it does not guaranty it. The removal of financial restrictions could affect capital distribution, increase volatility, create challenges for banks, etc. To support the liberalization efforts, it is very important to understand the nature of banking business, criticality of transparent and effective regulatory framework, as well as the expectations of potential investors. The main goal of this paper is to discuss the process of financial liberalization in developing countries and motivate the policy makers to consider available lessons when creating their balanced approach to financial (de)regulation processes towards financial development and integration in the global financial landscape
