    Consistency check of charged hadron multiplicities and fragmentation functions in SIDIS

    We derived the conditions on certain combinations of integrals of the fragmentation functions of pion using HERMES data of the sum for the charged pion multiplicities from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) off the deuteron target. In our derivation the nucleon parton distribution functions (PDFs) are assumed to be isospin SU(2) symmetric. Similar conditions have also been obtained for the fragmentation functions (FFs) of kaon by the sum of charged kaon multiplicities as well. We have chosen several FFs to study the impact of those conditions we have derived. Among those FFs, only that produced in the nonlocal chiral-quark model (NLχ\chiQM) constantly satisfy the conditions. Furthermore, the ratios of the strange PDFs S(x)S(x) and the nonstrange PDFs Q(x,Q2)Q(x,Q^2) extracted from the charged pion and kaon multiplicities differ from each other significantly. Finally, we demonstrate that the HERMES pion multiplicity data is unlikely to be compatible with the two widely-used PDFs, namely CTEQ6M and NNPDF3.0.Comment: 11 pages, 5 fig

    On the Vertex Operators of the Elliptic Quantum Algebra Uq,p(sl2^)kU_{q,p}(\widehat{sl_2})_{k}}

    A realization of the elliptic quantum algebra Uq,p(sl2^)U_{q,p}(\widehat{sl_2}) for any given level kk is constructed in terms of three free boson fields and their accompanying twisted partners. It can be viewed as the elliptic deformation of Wakimoto realization. Two screening currents are constructed; they commute or anti-commute with Uq,p(sl2^)U_{q,p}(\widehat{sl_2}) modulo total q-differences. The free fields realization for two types vertex operators nominated as the type II and the type IIII vertex operators are presented. The twisted version of the two types vertex operators are also obtained. They all play crucial roles in calculating correlation functions.Comment: 23 page

    A Bayesian measurement error model for two-channel cell-based RNAi data with replicates

    RNA interference (RNAi) is an endogenous cellular process in which small double-stranded RNAs lead to the destruction of mRNAs with complementary nucleoside sequence. With the production of RNAi libraries, large-scale RNAi screening in human cells can be conducted to identify unknown genes involved in a biological pathway. One challenge researchers face is how to deal with the multiple testing issue and the related false positive rate (FDR) and false negative rate (FNR). This paper proposes a Bayesian hierarchical measurement error model for the analysis of data from a two-channel RNAi high-throughput experiment with replicates, in which both the activity of a particular biological pathway and cell viability are monitored and the goal is to identify short hair-pin RNAs (shRNAs) that affect the pathway activity without affecting cell activity. Simulation studies demonstrate the flexibility and robustness of the Bayesian method and the benefits of having replicates in the experiment.     Noise-Constrained Performance Optimization by Simultaneous Gate and Wire Sizing Based on Lagrangian Relaxation

    Noise, as well as area, delay, and power, is one of the most important concerns in the design of deep sub-micron ICs. Currently existing algorithms can not handle simultaneous switching conditions of signals for noise minimization. In this paper, we model not only physical coupling capacitance, but also simultaneous switching behavior for noise optimization. Based on Lagrangian relaxation, we present an algorithm that can optimally solve the simultaneous noise, area, delay, and power optimization problem by sizing circuit components. Our algorithm, with linear memory requirement overall and linear runtime per iteration, is very effective and efficient. For example, for a circuit of 6144 wires and 3512 gates, our algorithm solves the simultaneous optimization problem using only 2.1 MB memory and 47 minute runtime to achieve the precision of within 1% error on a SUN UltraSPARC-I workstation

    Case report: JAKi and TNFi dual therapy is a potential treatment strategy for difficult-to-treat rheumatoid arthritis

    Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a heterogeneous chronic disease. RA patients should start disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) therapy immediately after diagnosis. If first-line treatment with conventional synthetic DMARDs does not relieve the disease, biology and targeted synthetic DMARDs are options for patients. Patients can switch to different types of biological and targeted synthetic DMARDs if remission is not achieved. However, for patients with difficult-to-treat RA, achieving disease stabilization after the failure of multiple biological and targeted synthetic DMARDs is a clinical challenge that needs to be addressed. As distinct cytokine pathways, the benefits and challenges of dual therapy are worth discussing. As the most extensively used biologic DMARDs, adalimumab is an anti-tumor necrosis factor monoclonal antibody used to treat RA. Tofacitinib, as a Janus Kinase inhibitor, is an orally administered targeted synthetic DMARDs that involved in the regulation of immune responses by directly or indirectly inhibiting cytokine pathways. This report describes a successful case of a 48-year-old woman with difficult-to-treat RA who treated with Tofacitinib combined with adalimumab. She had been on glucocorticosteroid for a long time, but had persistent joint pain and fatigue. At more than one year of follow-up, her Disease Activity Score for 28-joint counts based on the erythrocyte sedimentation rate (DAS28-ESR) remained in complete remission, and she discontinued her glucocorticosteroid medications. Also, she did not develop a mycobacterial tuberculosis infection, herpes zoster, and new-onset cardiovascular events

    Effectiveness of Adherence to Standardized Hypertension Management by Primary Health Care Workers in China: a Cross-sectional Survey 3 Years after the Healthcare Reform

    The standardized hypertension management provided by primary health care workers is an important part of China's recent health care reform efforts. Investigating 5,116 hypertensive patients from a cross-sectional survey conducted by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention in 2012, this study found that adherence to standardized hypertension management is associated with positive effects on hypertension-related knowledge, healthy lifestyle behavior, antihypertensive medical treatments, and blood pressure control. It will be necessary to provide primary health care workers with sufficient training and reasonable incentives to ensure the implementation and effectiveness of hypertension management
