Intelligent Joystick Sensing the User's Emotion and Providing Biofeedback
Development of an intelligent joystick is proposed which senses the userâs bio-signals and
recognises the userâs emotion. It provides biofeedback to the user as well as the userâs emotional
state information to the computer allowing human-computer interaction over sensitive
environment. While the user is interacting with a computer via a joystick the bio-signals can be
collected through the userâs fingers touching it. The collected bio-signals information is mapped
on a two-dimensional space to find out the quality and intensity of emotion continuously and in a
real-time manner. The intelligent joystick has application within several fields such as healthcare,
sport and game industries. In such cases, the user can be influenced, or suffer from medical
problems while under stress during interaction with the machines. The intelligent joystick will
provide feedback to the user and alert alarm about unhealthy conditions through the embedded
actuators and allow the machine to adapt with the usersâ emotional state
Women and men in the history of western cardiology: Some notes on their position as patients, role as investigational study subjects, and impact as professionals
Nowadays, it is generally appreciated that studies in the medical field should not only include sex-related aspects but also consider age. In the past, taking the era of Hippocrates as a starting point for the Western medical sciences, such aspects were less urgent and barely relevant. However, considering such details during daily life became increasingly important as the traditional roles of men and women in society and household converged. In the Western world, this fundamental transition process started recently and is advancing at an accelerated pace. Research about the role of women has also evolved, starting from plain history about the lives of women to a description of the relation between men and women, resulting in the gender concept. The present survey highlights a historical selection of observations referring to the impact of men and women on the medical sciences, as patient, study object, and professional. Whenever relevant, focus will be on the field of cardiovascular investigations as documented in the Western world. Rather than being exhaustive, we focus on a few remarkable icons, including Trota of Salerno, Hildegard von Bingen, and Miguel Serveto
The IceCube-Gen2 Collaboration -- Contributions to the 38th International Cosmic Ray Conference (ICRC2023)
IceCube-Gen2 is a planned next-generation neutrino observatory at the South
Pole that builds upon the successful design of IceCube. Integrating two
complementary detection technologies for neutrinos, optical and radio Cherenkov
emission, in combination with a surface array for cosmic ray air shower
detection, IceCube-Gen2 will cover a broad neutrino energy range from MeV to
EeV. This index of contributions to the 38th International Cosmic Ray
Conference in Nagoya, Japan (July 26 - August 3, 2023) describes research and
development efforts for IceCube-Gen2. Included are summaries of the design,
status, and sensitivity of the IceCube-Gen2 optical, surface, and radio
components; performance studies of next-generation optical sensors detecting
optical Cherenkov radiation from cosmic ray and neutrino events; reconstruction
techniques of radio and optical events in terms of energy, direction, and
neutrino flavor; and sensitivity studies of astrophysical neutrino flavors,
diffuse neutrino fluxes, and cosmic ray anisotropies. Contributions related to
IceCube and the scheduled IceCube Upgrade are available in a separate
collection.Comment: To access the list of contributions, please follow the "HTML" link.
