Performance Portability Strategies for Grid C++ Expression Templates

One of the key requirements for the Lattice QCD Application Development as part of the US Exascale Computing Project is performance portability across multiple architectures. Using the Grid C++ expression template as a starting point, we report on the progress made with regards to the Grid GPU offloading strategies. We present both the successes and issues encountered in using CUDA, OpenACC and Just-In-Time compilation. Experimentation and performance on GPUs with a SU(3)$\times$SU(3) streaming test will be reported. The Absolute Luminosities of the Calan/Tololo Type Ia Supernovae

We examine the absolute luminosities of 29 SNe Ia in the Calan/Tololo survey. We confirm a relation between the peak luminosity of the SNe and the decline rate as measured by the light curve, as suggested by Phillips (1993). We derive linear slopes to this magnitude-decline rate relation in BV(I)kc colors, using a sample with Bmax-Vmax < 0.2 mag. The scatter around this linear relation (and thus the ability to measure SNe Ia distances) ranges from 0.13 mag (in the I band) to 0.17 mag (in the B band). We also find evidence for significant correlations between the absolute magnitudes or the decline rate of the light curve, and the morphological type of the host galaxy.Comment: 21 pages, 4 figures, to appear in the Astronomical Journa

Diferencias intraespecíficas en el uso de un vertedero por parte de la Cigüeña Blanca (Ciconia ciconia) en el oeste de la Península Ibérica

Es va estudiar la presència de cigonyes blanques anellades a l'abocador de Càceres durant les temporades de cria de 1989 i 1990. La mitjana més alta del nombre d'ocells es va donar durant l'abril, mentre que al maig va ser el mes amb el menor nombre d'ocells. Els exemplars més joves de quatre anys foren més freqüents i amb proporcions majors del que s'esperava tenint en compte els percentatges de mortalitat d'aquesta espècie. Entre els ocells més joves de quatre anys els més abundants foren els individus d'un any, els quals eren més freqüents de l'esperat. Durant el període d'estudi les cigonyes van estar a l'abocador el mateix temps amb independència de les dues classes d'edats definides.
