    Get PDF
The purpose of the study was to examine Jordanian student teachers’ perceptions of whether their Teacher Education had prepared them for 21st-century competencies, and how well they applied these competencies to their classroom teaching. The study also identified best practices, major obstacles, and suggestions for achieving these competencies. The study was conducted in two universities in the South and three universities in the North of Jordan that offer teacher education programs. A mixed-methods approach was used for this study. The sample consisted of 457 Student teachers who completed a structured questionnaire with open-ended questions to assess 21st-century competencies. Quantitative data analysis relies on descriptive statistics and correlations, while qualitative data analysis relies on content analysis. Despite differences in competency, the student teachers achieved 21st-century competencies based on their self-assessment. Students’ perceptions of whether they succeed in implementing 21st-century competencies in their classrooms were documented in this study. The best-achieved competency was collaboration, and the least well-achieved competency was global connections. Answers to open-ended questions provided convincing evidence that courses involving collaborative and interactive learning, high quality, sufficient support, relevant 21st-century competencies, and integrating theory and practice can contribute significantly to the development of student teachers’ 21st-century competencies

    Get PDF
A transport request is a process of transferring SAP system components from one system to another and the components to be transported are specified in the object list of a transport request. Current transport request process is using hardcopy form that is printed with the details about the requester, the change request and change request id. The usage of the form rise problems that include the problem on storage and filing the forms, standardizing the form structure, and the process is not easy to monitor and analyze. The purpose of the study is to develop a system in SAP that can cater for change request transportation to different client server where the system is fully integrated with all SAP functionality and can overcome all problems that rise from the used of hardcopy form. Manual paper-based process is transformed into automate-based process that is integrated within SAP. The boundary for the study is within transport architecture in SAP and the transport architecture focus on two system environment with several clients. ABAP programming is used as the programming language to develop the entire graphical user interface including screen, and analysis. The implementation of the project involves identification of the business process flow analysis on the SAP transport architecture, designing and creating database tables and graphical user interface, developing program code for screens and analysis, and running program testing that includes subsystem, integration and system testing. The system is be able to cater for all user requirements in term of requesting a transport request, communication between requester and approver, perform transport process, and generates analysis for the management

AbstractTo carry out their duties more effectively, health care professionals in the UAE often ask about the population structure and the main causes of mortality and morbidity in the country. This paper summarizes what is known about these topics drawing on secondary data sources that are available in the public domain, including census data, population estimates, births and deaths, proportionate mortality, age-standardized mortality rates and disability adjusted life-years. There are inconsistencies and flaws in some of this data which this paper will highlight and attempt to explain. Since 2005, the UAE population has grown substantially owing to high natural growth and high net inward migration and is currently estimated to be about 8.2million. In 2008, injuries, heart disease, neoplasms and cerebrovascular disease accounted for 57% of deaths, and this is well known. Less is reported about the risk of death, disease, injury and disability. The population of the UAE is diverse, and there are variations in mortality and morbidity risk by age-group, sex and nationality. The authors recommend improvements in the timeliness, completeness and consistency of data. They conclude that better data will encourage more analysis which will generate health intelligence leading to health improvement for the UAE population

Penang has been the popular cultural heritage tourism attractions in Malaysia. Penang has great potential to develop and offers its cultural and heritage products and experiences to local and foreign visitors. Georgetown is one of the most visited sites in Penang.  Georgetown is awarded the UNESCO listing for its unique architecture and cultural townscape. The variety of cultures on display within the heritage area, such as Muslim, Chinese, Indian and European, is unique to Georgetown. The city is also known as Malaysia's food capital, home to multicultural distinct cuisines, cheap and delicious open-air hawker centers. Apart from that, Georgetown also offers unique and affordable budget hotels to enrich backpacker’s experiences. The main objective of this study is to evaluate the facilities and services provided by budget hotels in Georgetown. The evaluation was based on backpackers’ opinions on the importance and performance rating of the listed attributes. This study adopted the simple random sample method of data collection. About 30 questionnaires were distributed to the backpackers during weekdays and weekends. The socio-demographic data were evaluated using Frequency Analysis. The data showed the different socio-demographic, socio-economic, and trip characteristics of the backpackers. The demographic and trip characteristics data provided the information of visitor’s motivation and activity during their visit to Penang. The Importance-Performance Analysis (IP Analysis) was used to evaluate the overall budget hotels’ facility and service attributes, and the final result has been translated into Importance-Performance action grid. The action grid showed all the 23 attributes of general and specific facilities, and services provided were plotted on the High Importance and Performance quadrant.  Attributes plotted on the action grid showed that all of the attributes were evaluated high on importance and performance suggested that the cultural village management should maintain the status of performance in all attributes area. The Ratio Analysis indicated the ranking of priority which needed special attention from the management of the budget hotels. From the analysis, availability of mini bar, hotel safe box availability, and hotel F&B are value for money were ranked at the highest priority and needed special intention from the management of the budget hotels. Overall, the result of the study was, all of the attributes were evaluated as High Importance and High Performance. The management of the budget hotels in Georgetown has to keep up the good work and maintain the attributes.  Hopefully, the findings of this study will be useful for the management of budget hotels to manage and maintain the facilities and services provided to enhance the quality of backpackers’ experiences.

    Get PDF
A numerical parametric study was performed on the influence of various riser exit geometries on the hydrodynamics of gas-solid two-phase flow in the riser of a Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB). A Eulerian continuum formulation was applied to both phases. A two fluid framework has been used to simulate fully developed gas-solid flows in vertical riser. A two dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model of gas-particle flow in the CFB has been investigated using the code FLUENT. The turbulence was modeled by a k-e turbulence model in the gas phase. The simulations were done using the geometrical configuration of a CFB test rig at the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The CFB riser column has 265 mm (width), 72 mm (depth) and 2.7 m height. The riser is made up of interchangeable Plexiglas columns. The computational model was used to simulate the riser over a wide range of operating and design parameters. In addition, several numerical experiments were carried out to understand the influence of riser end effects, particle size, gas solid velocity and solid volume fraction on the simulated flow characteristics. The CFD model with a k-e turbulence model for the gas phase and a fixed particle viscosity in the solids phase showed good mixing behaviour. These results were found to be useful in further development of modeling of gas solid flow in the riser

    Get PDF
This research explains the investigation of fin spacing for heat transfer enhancement in the finned tube heat exchanger. The objective of this paper is to recommend the optimum fin spacing for heat transfer enhancement. Three different types of tube and spacing are identified through the simulation from Ansys software. The data between simulation using Ansys Fluent and published literature were being compared. Graph of total pressure, Nusselt number and total temperature have been plotted to make the comparison. Result obtained showed that were a bigger agreement between the simulation and published literature for both types of the tube which are circular and elliptic. From the analysis, there were considered two types of arrangement for the different types of tube. From that, the aligned arrangement is the best for heat transfer enhancement compared to the staggered. For the effect of spacing, there was three spacing which is 1.7 mm, 1.8 mm, and 2.0 mm spacing with velocity and the total heat flux is set to be constant (v =1.4 m/s; q = 500 W/m2). For the circular tube, it can be seen that the wider of the fin spacing gave the best heat transfer enhancement in the heat exchanger. Different from the circular which is 1.8 mm spacing is the best for heat transfer enhancement. Other types of tube are a flat surface which is comparing with the variations of Nu vs Re with different heat flux. Then, the result showed that as the Re is increased the Nu will also increase. In the other side, it is recommended for future work to do the real model dimension followed to import to the Ansys instead of assuming the model is symmetrical
