Nikki Gawronski, DPT  School and Department of primary author:  School of Health Sciences and Practice Department of Physical Therapy  Boyer Category: teaching  Background/Objectives:   Background: There is a responsibility as Doctors of Physical Therapy to treat ethically and responsibly. The seven core values and the Code of Ethics serve as a compass to direct moral decision-making. Traditionally, ethical decision making has been taught in a lecture-based format. Students who are provided interactive video instead achieve significantly better learning performance and higher learner satisfaction. Accredited DPT curricula are required to include content and learning experiences in ethics and values but there is no gold standard for format of delivery. Objectives: for second year Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students to develop a series of videos that portray ethically challenging situations  Design/Methods:   Second year DPT students and their advisor contracted with a national publishing company to create ethically challenging case scenarios and scripts that a physical therapist or physical therapy student may encounter.  Face validity of the video content was conducted by sending the scripts to two physical therapists who publish and present on the subject of ethics nationally. Once validated, the students collaborated with a production team to film the videos. The second year DPT students created a survey about the videos’ production, medium and content.  41 first year DPT students who had previously been instructed through lecture and paper cases viewed the videos and completed the survey. Inclusion criteria: passing grade in Professional Practice 1 course.  Results: 27 participants felt that ethics is important to study.  33 participants felt the videos appeared more natural.  41 participants felt the videos were more helpful to understand ethical dilemmas.  37 participants felt more confident making an ethical decision in a PT setting.  Conclusions:   The results of our survey suggest that second year DPT students developed videos that portrayed realistic scenarios that might challenge a therapist ethically.  The use of the videos as an educational tool for first year students promoted understanding of ethical decision making. The current climate of high productivity standards and physical therapist burnout may tempt therapists to act against the Code of Ethics and their morals. Educating students early with realistic scenarios highlights the importance of this topic to our profession.
