The paper discusses the recent progress made using a twin-plane tomography system and cross-correlation technique for solids mass flow measurements. The use of tomography provides instantaneous data of solids distribution in a pipe cross-section. Solids velocities are calculated by cross correlating their distribution profiles measured simultaneously at two planes and the mass flow rate is calculated as a product of solids concentrations and velocities. Combining tomographic data with a cross-correlation technique waives the assumption that solids' trajectories are parallel to the pipe axis. This is important since, in many cases the solids trajectories exhibit complex shapes. The results were obtained for pneumatic and hydraulic conveying systems. They illustrate the effects of pipeline configuration on solids distribution and velocity profiles.</p
