I wanted to let you, the faculty, and your students know a little about the activities scheduled for the upcoming annual meeting of the Southeastern Chapter of AALL. The meeting is being held at the University of Mississippi from April 5 through April a, 1990. Activities will begin with an opening reception on Thursday, April 5. The theme of the meeting is "An Anthology of Issues Facing Law Librarians" and programs will get underway Friday at 9:00 a.m. with concurrent presentations. Lunch is included in the registration fee and will feature Stephen Dennis, Executive Director of the National Center for Preservation Law. Two additional sets of concurrent programs follow lunch. The schedule for Saturday again features two sets of concurrent programs. The speakers are all quite prominent in the law library community. Saturday afternoon will feature a picnic on the grounds of William Faulkner's home, Rowan Oak. The regular meeting of SEALL will adjourn at that time, but an institute on management of libraries will begin that afternoon and continue until Sunday. I have enclosed excerpts from an article describing some of the programs. There are no official placement activities scheduled; however, the meeting does provide the opportunity to meet representatives of law school, law firm, court and corporate law libraries in the southeast. The directors of the major law libraries in the region are usually in attendance. This meeting attracts about one hundred attendees and the pace is such that one has time for in-depth conversation. Additionally, a mentor program is being organized to pair first time attendees with experienced law librarians for advice and introductions. • Page 2 Ms. Ann Prentice, Director A separate convention mailing will be coming to you from the Local Arrangements Committee. I would appreciate it being posted in a prominent place. Anyone who has questions regarding the me eting or any other aspect of law librarianship should feel free to call me. I have just taken on a new position at The George Washington University in Washington, D.C., and thus will be unable to attend the conference. I can assure you, however, that members of the Southeastern Chapter of AALL look forward to seeing you, your faculty, and your students in Oxford in April.
