The	gastrointestinal	system	is	a	valuable	pharmacological	target	for	treat-ing	 diseases	 of	 metabolism,	 since	 it	 can	 regulate	 the	 functions	 of	 other	organs,	 such	 as	 liver	 or	 adipose	 tissue.	 Especially	 non-absorbable	 drugs	have	a	great	potential	to	target	specific	metabolic	pathways	while	avoiding	systemic toxicity at the same time.
