Cet article propose un essai de description d’acte dénomination dans un discours encyclopédique (Grand Dictionnaire Universel de p. Larousse, 1966-1977). On attribue au N FAMILLE, choisi pour cette analyse, un statut de N d’objet social en référence à J. R. Searle (1998). Compte tenu de ce postulat, on s’interroge sur la fonction dénominative du N FAMILLE dans sa relation avec la suite des énoncés encyclopédiques. Ces énoncés configurent en un domaine de référence, noté Morale et Politique, une multiplicité de faits qu’il convient d’appeler du nom FAMILLE dans une situation encyclopédique datée. Ce travail de recherche en cours d’élaboration s’inscrit dans une procédure d’analyse du discours qui utilise les notions d’événement discursif, d’événement linguistique (J. Guilhaumou) et d’hyperlangue (S. Auroux).The aim of this article is to try and describe how a particular concept is defined in an encyclopedia (namely the Grand Dictionnaire Universel de p. Larousse 1966-1977). The concept chosen for this analysis is the noun Family, a social entity described in relation to J. R. Searle. The various encyclopedic definitions listed under this entry are probed in order to circumscribe the domain of reference covered by the noun Family. The areas of morals and politics emerge from this analysis leading to the conclusion that a wide range of social facts can be classified as “family” from the perspective of this particular encyclopedia. The analytical tools used by this work in progress within the field of discourse analysis are mainly the notions of discursive event, linguistic event and hyperlanguage
