Hehas presented recitals, performed chamber music, and appeared assoloist with orchestra in such prestigious concert halls as the SallePleyel and Théâtre des Champs Elysées in Paris, Alice Tully Hall inNew York, the Tapei Arts Center, Wigmore Hall in London, La Fenice inVenice, Hamarikyu Hall in Tokyo, the Vigado in Budapest, the Palaude la Musica Catalana in Barcelona, and the Moscow TschaikovskyConservatory, under such conductors as Leonard Bernstein, TiborVarga, Laurent Petitgirard, and Yoram David. He has been invited tonumerous festivals, including the Lanaudière in Canada, Switzerland’sSion Festival, the Budapest Spring Festival, the Midem Festival inCannes, and the Berlioz Festival in Lyon. Chamber music collaboratorshave included Gidon Kremer, Ivry Gitlis, Jean Philippe Collard, andEmile Naoumoff. His appearances at the 2006 National FluteAssociation convention in Pittsburgh, an event attended by threethousand flutists, included a gala headliner concert in Heinz Hall anda master class. In addition to his performing career, Mr. Ferrandisserves as professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure in Paris. Heregularly presents master classes in Japan (Toho University), theUnited States (Juilliard school, Rice University etc...), Europe (RoyalCollege of London, Moscow Conservatoire, etc...), Australia, Taiwan,Korea, and has also appeared in South Africa. As a conductor he leadsthe Saint Petersburg Camerata in Russia and in Vilnius (Lithuania) theSaint Christopher Chamber Orchestra, with which he has recordedflute concertos of C. P. E. Bach. Other compact discs include Mozart’scomplete flute concertos (with Marie-Pierre Langlamet, solo harpist ofthe Berlin Philharmonic), works of Honegger and d’Indy, Schubert’ssonatinas and the “Arpeggione” sonata, and a two-disc set of worksfor flute by Yuko Uebayashi. Jean Ferrandis unanimously received hisfirst prize from the Lyon Conservatoire, where he studied withMaxence Larrieu. A prize winner at international competitions such asMunich, Maria Canals in Barcelona, and Young Concert Artists in NewYork, he was awarded the grand prize at the 1986 Prague SpringFestival International Flute Competition. Leonard Bernstein was soimpressed by his performance of the Adagio from Mozart’s D majorconcerto that he remarked “It is Pan himself!” and subsequentlycomposed a cadenza for Mr. Ferrandis. Diane Birr has collaborated with vocalists and instrumentalists inrecitals and master classes throughout the United States and Europeand has served as an official collaborative pianist for the MTNAnational competitions, as well as the International Double ReedSociety, International Horn Society, and the International TromboneAssociation’s conferences.   For sixteen years she was on the facultyof International Workshops where she performed with stringfaculty in recital and coached chamber music.   Birr is a member of Troica, a trio that draws on existing repertoire written for trumpet,saxophone and piano and has inspired the creation of new works bycurrent composers.   The trio was invited to perform at theInternational Trumpet Guild in Australia (2010) and this Julyperformed at the World Saxophone Congress in Strasbourg, France.  Dr. Birr has been active in Music Teachers National Association(MTNA), having served on its national Board of Directors and asEastern Division Director, as well as in several officer positions withinthe NYSMTA affiliated organization, including President.   Dr. Birr isProfessor of Piano at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, where sheteaches collaborative piano courses, private lessons and group piano,as well as serves as Associate Chair of Performance Studies.
