Metabolomics and genomics approchs for the identification of QTLs and genes affecting flavour in Tomato fruit

Abstract

We used a population of tomato introgression lines and through chromatographic technique we analyzed the volatile profiles of the entire population in the attempt to identify flavor related QTLs as well as to further investigate the metabolic pathways that involves volatiles production in the fruit. Finally, focusing our attention on two particular QTLs, we tried to identify single genes responsible of the observed phenotype of the introgression lines using microarrays approach. An in-fruit gene silencing will be finally used to prove their biological function
