Gestão do processo editorial eletrônico, baseado no modelo Acesso Aberto: estudo em periódicos científicos da Universidade Federal da Bahia

Abstract

This is an exploratory study analyzing changes undertaken in the publishing process of Federal University of Bahia’s scientific journals CCRH, RBSPA, RFACED, after the establishment of Electronic Journal Publishing System (SEER), aiming at comparing SEER with previous publishing management process and its acceptance by authors, reviewers and editors involved in such publications. Data collection was undertaken with online surveys by means of Survey Monkey web-based system platform, completed by authors, reviewers and editors of the above mentioned journals. For data analysis, issues concerning SEER and previous publishing processes were investigated, as quantitative/qualitative analysis according to the review of the literature and to the theoretical framework underlying the research was conductied. Results indicate high level of acceptance concerning the use of the system. Of the overall number of subjects involved in the research, 97 % considered the systems’ overall assessment good or excellent, whereas 80% averaged good or excellent for all items assessed. When comparing SEER with other previous publishing processes, over 60% of respondents considered SEER assessment process better and faster and 80% reported not having or having had little problem during the process. These results demonstrate SEER good level of acceptance and performance in the management of journals investigated, yielding improvement for the publishing process, dissemination and diffusion of publications. Nonetheless, system improvements are recommended, as outlined in the chapter “Data Analysis and Discussion”, as well as the development of further research on SEER use and on the Open Access Model to other journals, in order to improve scientific journals publishing standards in Brazil
