Abstract

The definition of an epistemological "posture" in Information Sciences has been an issue of interest to several researchers and scholars throughout the twenty century. In comparison to other fields of knowledge, this field has been affected by different "distinguos" and subtleties. Furthermore in the seventies its different designation in various geographic areas has made more difficult for epistemologists to give a unique and shared definition of this domain of knowledge. Scholars have dealt with information science/sciences either as a collective and complex group featured by cross and interdisciplinary properties or as an operational and technological field rather than a logic one or as an independent entity or as a derivative science fl uctuating from derivation to affiliation to the large core of library sciences. The theory of "social epistemology" by Hauk Shera as well the mid eighties Italian debate (Paolo Bisogno and Alfredo Serrai) well testify all this
