• Define the concept of “Open Access” in his 
or her own words 
 
• Distinguish between Open Access and the 
related concept of Open Source 
 
• Describe the basic features of the editorial 
peer review (“referee”) process in her or his

• Apply the basic features of editorial peer 
review to the operations of an open access 
journal 
 
• Locate open access journals on the Internet 
 
• Recognize the features of the major 
business models for open access journals

• Grant appropriate credit to the author 
 
• Author retains ownership of her or his 
intellectual property
