M orel M orel D.A.L exicographic resources applicability  in studying the contem porary state o f  a fragm ent o f  the picture o f  the worldBelgorod National Research University, BelgorodDictionaries and their definitions are widely considered as authoritative sources o f reliable material for different kinds of linguistic studies; such an approach is shared by representatives o f the cognitive linguistics who reveal appropriateness and method­ological validity o f applying different lexicographic resources data as a material for studying concepts (q.v.: [1: 73-76].Nevertheless, certain divergences between results based on lexicographic and experimental materials are acknowledged [3: 173]. Our study o f lexical means repre­senting the concept “drinks” at different national and group levels [2] has shown that the systems of drinks denominations actualized in the linguistic picture of the world of contemporary Russian teenagers and youth do not coincide with the corresponding lexical field derived from lexicographic data analysis.To reveal the system of lexical means representing the concept “drinks” in Rus­sian language we used classical explanatory dictionaries by V.I. Dal', D.N. Ushakov, S.I. Ozhegov & N.Yu. Shvedova, the modem domestic lexicography was represented by the dictionary by T.F. Efremova [4].The undertaken analysis of the above-mentioned lexicographic corpora revealed 455 lexemes (42 of them are collocations) with one or more semes representing drinks (about methods see [1: 11]). The contribution o f different dictionaries to the building o f the lexical field "drinks” is fairly unequal: Dal’s dictionary includes 256 denomina­tions of drinks (141 o f them -or 55,1% -are not fixed in other examined dictionaries), Ushakov’s - 192 (17-8,9% ), Ozhegov V I 21 (6-5,0% ), Efremova’s-273 (83-30,4%).The most productive sources o f lexical material are dictionaries by T.F. Efremova and V I Dal', the latter providing the maximum amount of unique denomi­nations. The minimal share belongs to the dictionary by S.l. Ozhegov that might be explained by the editorial policy. The 3|J rank of Ushakov’s dictionary can be caused by the process o f restoring some prerevolutionary realities, corresponding concepts, and the means of their verbalization that has been developing since the 90s. Abun­dance of drinks denominations fixed only by Efremova’s dictionary results for the most part from the accurate examination o f polysemy-especially of m etonym y- undertaken there.However, there is a large discrepancy between lexicographic and experimentally obtained material. A multiaspect survey o f 300 respondents (13-45 years old-see [2: 100-101]) revealed 563 denominations o f drinks relevant for the contemporary picture o f the world, whereas only 123 of them are fixed in the examined dictionaries. 82% of drinks denominations mentioned in D al’s dictionary are not actualized in respondents’ answers. For Ushakov’s, Ozhegov’s, Efremova’s dictionaries such a rate takes on val­ues o f 58,9, 32,2, 59,7%, respectively.Thus, no-one of examined lexicographic resources can either reflect the frag­ment under question of contemporary picture o f the world somewhat exhaustively or represent up-to-date, actually relevant system of denominations in full. It mostly con-cems D al’s dictionary Ozhegov’s one is more adequate to the state o f the art, but not sufficient enough as a source o f lexical material.The dictionary by T.F. Efremova turned out to be the most applicable to the study of the discussed nature; however it should be corroborated with empirical data.1. Морель Морель Д.А. Байрона, а затем, под сильным впечатлением от не очень хорошо понятого «Корсара», начал своего «Кавказского пленника». 27 июня 1822 г. в письме к Н.И. Гнедичу Пушкин от­мечал, что «английская словесность начинает иметь влияние на русскую», и надеялся, что это влияние «будет полезнее влияния французской поэзии, робкой и жеманной». Серьезно изучать английский язык Пушкин начал в 1828 г. по воз­вращении в Петербург из ссылки в Михайловском, на что, в частности, обратил внимание А.Ф.
