DURHAM, N.H. ­ University New Hampshire first­year student Jeanna Diorio has been awarded
a National Security Education Program Boren Scholarship for study in Egypt during the 2009­
2010 academic year. She was one of 130 students out of 896 applicants across the country to
receive an award.
Diorio is pursuing a dual major in international affairs and political science with a minor in
history and a focus on the Middle East. The Kingston resident first became interested in the
region during high school while participating in the Model United Nations program. At UNH,
Diorio took part in the international Model UN competition in New York City, where the UNH
Palestine delegation received an honorable mention. 
While in Egypt, Diorio will study Arabic.
