The objective is to analyze and highlight the importance of the educational counselor in the integral development of general high school students, with an interdisciplinary approach, identifying key functions that counselors play in the student, emotional and social spheres, in the formation of competencies that transcend the academic. An inquiry was carried out, the type of research was interpretative and a documentary bibliographic design was carried out. Theoretical foundations were taken such as: Role of the teacher counselor, in academic performance, interpersonal relationships, professional choice. Some of the final reflections about the review of the role of the educational counselor in general secondary education is to help students mediate between them and the educational system, in order to define their professional profile and therefore ensure their future, this can be achieved through planning, application of pedagogical strategies for the achievement of an end or purpose.El objetivo es analizar y resaltar la importancia del orientador educativo en el desarrollo integral de los estudiantes de media general, con enfoque interdisciplinario, identificando funciones clave que desempeñan los orientadores en el ámbito estudiantil, emocional y social, en la formación de competencias que trascienden lo académico. Se llevó a cabo una indagación, el tipo de investigación fue interpretativa y un diseño bibliográfico documental. Se tomaron fundamentos teóricos como: Rol del orientador docente, en el rendimiento académico, las relaciones interpersonales, elección profesional. Algunas de las reflexiones finales acerca de la revisión realizada del rol del orientador educativo en la educación media general, es ayudar a los estudiantes a mediar entre ellos y el sistema educativo, para así definir su perfil profesional y por ende asegurar su futuro, esto se puede lograr mediante la planificación, aplicación de estrategias pedagógicas para el logro de un fin o propósito
