For patients with these conditions, it is imperative thatthe dental clinician performs a comprehensive evaluationand assessment on patients to increase the potential for a suc-cessful outcome. The skills of a myriad of specialists will beinvolved, including those in oral andmaxillofacial pathology,radiology, oral medicine, head and neck anatomy, and theprimary care provider.In this special issue dedicated to head and neck pathologyand radiology, the manuscripts selected for publication fur-ther demonstrate the significance of the relationship des-cribed between the specialists and primary care provider. Thearticle by D. C. Lorenzoni et al. highlights radiology anddiscusses the radiation doses that are associated with plainradiographs, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT),and conventional computed tomography (CT), placing aspecial emphasis on orthodontics. A. Sharma and V. P. Singhthoroughly summarize a study detecting supernumeraryteeth in Indian children in 300 cases using clinical and radio-graphic examination. In one of their two articles in thisspecial issue, L. Feller and J. Lemmer provide an exten-sive review on oral leukoplakia and its relationship to humanpapillomavirus (HPV). P. Bhirangi et al. elaborate on thetechnical steps for the prosthetic rehabilitation of an eden-tulous glossectomy patient. In the other article, L. Feller andJ. Lemmer critically review cell transformation and the evo-lution of a field of precancerization as it relates to oral leuko-plakia.AcknowledgmentsThis special issue on head and neck pathology and radiologywould not be possible without the invaluable work of my fel-low guest editors.
