This review focuses on acoustic oscillations n the solar at-
mosphere.There s much debate on photospheric p stons to chromo-
spher c oscillations,on the penetration height of acoustic shocks,and on
the r contr but on to chromospheric heat ng,w th new nput coming from
space observations and from numer cal simulations.Less progress s made
in identifying wave modes or wave heating n magnetic structures,but it
seems that umbral ?ashes are ripe for understanding
