Lainey Terfruchte 1blowing apart in the windafter Curtis LeMayI suppose if I had lost the war-I’d rather take stones than words,rather a bruise than another cut of “idealistic youth.”I wish my organizers hadn’t killedthemselves in another battle,so I’d have a path to follow.…I would have been tried as a war criminal.peace signs are a crucifix, a loving connectorto a history I was born of.my friends and I prefer to talk of homeworkthan those buried under rubble and boots.But…if you let that bother you-I send kisses to doves and beautiful people,wear patches that proclaim “work for peace.”if only I lived in washington or 1967.I am more familiar with english literaturethan military operations.…you’re not a good soldier.and I understand what my friend meanswhen he wishes for something to die for,because dying must be easier than giving up your life.the fight ended years before I was born,but when will the war be over?
