Kane MD, Beth Lally Pharm.D• The time a medication leaves the pharmacy is not collected automatically by epic, and determining that time allows for identifying what part of the delivery process is taking the longest • A data sheet was placed at the tubing station in the pharmacy for the pharmacists to record the time and MRN for any medications they sent to the emergency department • 100 medication orders from pharmacy to ED were analyzed for data collectionPharmacy Recommendations: •  The most streamlined medication orders come from the omnicell, so frequently evaluating what medications can be added to it will significantly reduce time • Remodel the method in which pharmacists give final approval of pulled medication orders so they know promptly when orders are ready to be tubed • Continue to track tube times to add additional accountability • Utilize the stat function when tubing medications in order to reduce tube time Nursing Recommendations: •  The longest time gap is between nurses receiving and actually administering the medications • The hiring of more nurses would mean a better ratio of patients to nurses and allow them to prioritize getting medications to patients  • Education of nurses on what medications are available in the omnicell would prevent wasted time ordering meds from pharmacy • Incentivize nurses who have the quickest time to administration each month 5 min19 min4 min37 minScan QR code to get a closer look at the pharmacy process flow chart and results!
