Abstract

In this recording, Delmas McCryndle is interviewed by Kern Jackson for the Blakeley Bluff Oral History Project. Mr. McCryndle was born in Hurricane, Alabama, and his grandmother’s house was located in the old town of Blakeley. He discusses some of his family history, and their relationship to Blakeley stretching back through the generations, including the cemetery where many of his relatives are buried in what is now Historic Blakeley State Park. He also describes some of the history of the area, and some of the archaeological looting that has taken place over the years. He notes that there used to be far more Black landowners in the areas around and connecting Daphne and Spanish Fort than there are today. Mr. McCryndle was in fifth grade during school integration, and he describes some of his experiences in that process
