This study describes the equality of positions and gender roles in
the domestic and public spheres in Indonesian language learning books for grades X and XI of
high school. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data of this study are
vocabulary, clauses, sentences, or paragraphs that contain gender equality while the source of
this research is the reading text in Indonesian language textbooks for class X and XI SMA
2013 curriculum published by the Ministry of Education and Culture revised edition 2017.
Collection techniques the data used are recording techniques and reading-listening techniques.
The research results are classified based on gender positions and roles in the domestic and
public spheres. The form of gender equality found is the equality of positions and roles in the
domestic and public sphere. Equality of position and role with regard to the equality of one's
position and role in the domestic sphere, not only men, women are also found as decision
makers and can become family leaders. Gender equality is also found in the public sphere in
the form of equality of positions and gender roles where women are described as people who
are able to earn a living for themselves without needing help from others, women are
described as independent and capable of being leaders both for themselves and for others.
