Medication turnover times in the emergency department

Abstract

"Delays in initiating appropriate therapy can negatively impact patient outcomes. Early administration of therapy in time-dependent conditions, such as sepsis, diabetic ketoacidosis, and status epilepticus has the potential to decrease morbidity and mortality. The objective of this study was to determine if the presence of clinical pharmacists in the emergency department would improve order-to-arrival times of three time-sensitive medications that are delivered from our hospital's central pharmacy."--Overview
