Abstract

The goal of this article analysis the process of creating Economic and Monetary Union by European countries. The author of the text focused on the years: 1970-1998, that means the period of time from presenting Werner plan to the ending of existing EMS. In the article there is the summary of the most important events, witch took places in this period of time. It can be pointed out two parts. The first one is connected with the way of realization, reasons of the Werner plan failure and also the response. The countries of the European Economic Community to breaking Bretton Woods system. The second part presents the way of functioning EMS as well as description of the main events of monetary integration in Europe from 1970 to 1998
