Edgard NehméEditeurScience et politique, quel avenir pour l’humanité ?La science se définit comme un ensemble cohérent de connaissances vérifiées par les méthodes expérimentales. Alors que la politique se définit, entre autres, comme une manière concertée d’agir, de conduire une affaire. D’aucuns trouveraient peut-être entre l’un et l’autre domaine une proche ou, au contraire, une très lointaine parenté. D’autres aussi situeraient la science à l’antipode de la politique.Quelques réflexions doivent cependant nous interpeller. Si la science se doit d’être cohérente, la politique, du fait des faiblesses des hommes, est constamment soumise à des distorsions qui mettent en péril les collectivités, les peuples, et plus loin encore, les relations entre les hommes.À l’opposé, aussi bien la science que la politique exigent une méthodologie et une action, concertée surtout, c.a.d. préparée en commun. S’entendre pour agir ensemble.« Science sans conscience n’est que ruine de l’âme ». François Rabelais, célèbre écrivain huma-niste, également médecin, homme d’église et homme politique écrivit cette phrase en 1532 dans le chapitre VIII de Pantagruel. Depuis, elle fait l’objet d’une réflexion partagée par de nombreux philosophes de tous les temps. En effet, cette citation dégage des enjeux très présents dans le monde d’aujourd’hui. La science est l’ensemble des expérimentations, des théories qui visent à développer les techniques et la technologie, ou à comprendre les mystères de notre existence ou de l’univers. La conscience est la perception, la connaissance (plus ou moins claire) de notre exis-tence, de ce qui nous entoure. Enfin, ruiner c’est détruire, perdre. Une utilisation de la science sans une maîtrise totale par la conscience conduit à la perte de son âme, c’est-à-dire ce que l’on a de plus précieux.« Le sort de l’humanité sera celui qu’elle mérite » disait Albert Einstein. Cette citation peu précise a subi une embellie en la restituant à son contexte originel : « Il est indispensable que l’humanité formule un nouveau mode de pensée si elle veut survivre et atteindre un plan plus élevé. Le sort de l’humanité sera en règle générale celui qu’elle mérite ». Qu’elle méritera, pour d’autres.Faisons, Nous, hommes de science, de cette formidable citation notre credo quotidien, pour le bien de l’humanité et pour un monde plus sain. Et de la politique, retenons le meilleur, le plus noble de ce qu’elle nous propose.Science and politics, what future for humanity?Science is defined as a coherent set of knowledge verified by experimental methods. While the poli-tics is defined, among others, as a concerted action, to conduct a case. Some might find between both a close or a distant connection. Other also place science at the antipode of politics.Some thoughts, however, must concern us. If science must be coherent, politics, because of men’s weaknesses, is constantly subjected to distortions that threaten communities, peoples, and even further, the relationship between men. In contrast, as well as science, politics requires a methodo-logy and action, mainly concerted, jointly prepared. Agree to act together.“Science without conscience is the ruin of the soul.” Francois Rabelais, the famous humanist writer, also doctor, clergyman and politician wrote this sentence in 1532 in the eighth chapter of Pantagruel.Since then it has been submitted to reflexions shared by many philosophers of all time. Indeed, this Quote disclaims concerns present in the world today. Science is all experiments, theories that seek to develop techniques and technology, or to understand the mysteries of our existence or those of the universe. Conscience is the perception, the knowledge (more or less clear) of our existence, of our surroundings. Finally, to ruin is to destroy, to lose. The use of science without total control by consciousness leads to loss of the man’s soul. That is what we value the most.“The fate of humanity will be what it deserves” Albert Einstein said. This imprecise quote expe-rienced an upturn when replacing it in its original context: “It is imperative that humanity formulates a new way of thinking if it wishes to survive and reach a higher level. The fate of humanity will be generally what it deserves”. It could deserve, for others.May we, men of science, make this wonderful quote our daily credo for the sake of humanity and for a healthier world.
