Originally designed to publish innovative research and documentations relating to sexual and reproductive health and rights in and about Africa, the journal now plays a dominant role in scientific discourses around rights and social justice relevant to international development planning in the fields of population and women‘s health. Within the short period of its establishment, the journal recorded several successes in many domains.  It was the first international journal that documented events, research, and programming in reproductive health in sub-Saharan Africa at the emergence of the ―paradigm shift‘ and the new reproductive health doctrine. Following the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) in Cairo, Egypt in 1994, and the fourth World Conference in Beijing, China in 1995, it was evident that the African continent was the tailback of the rights and social justice denial that dominated the discourse in both conferences. The coming of the AJRH in 1997 to document subsequent events on sexual and reproductive health and rights promotion and development was therefore a purposefully and appropriately designed innovation to address the challenge within the context of the African continent. Since then, the AJRH has not only propelled the development of women‘s and reproductive health and rights in the continent, it has helped African countries to develop new ways of thinking about health, rights and social justice in a more holistic way, and in building a new cohort of adherents and researchers in the continent. A major initial success of the journal was its indexing by PubMed/Medline in its very first edition1, which to the best of our knowledge, was the first time such an accomplishment was recorded by a journal published exclusively from a low-income country.  Since then, the journal has been indexed by nearly all key indexing agencies, including Scopus2. The journal was one of a few journals published from low-income countries that was initially published as an open access journal through Sabinet3, and now maintains an open access presence in six additional domains, including in its own website (www.ajrh.info). In 2005, in just seven years of its existence, the AJRH was ranked by the National Universities Commission (NUC), Nigeria‘s supervisory agency for tertiary education, as ―the best journal in Nigeria that meets international journal‖4. More recently, the journal has been ranked as the number 1 journal in the reproductive health sciences discipline in Africa 5 and number 43 in the world6. Twenty-six years of continuous publication of a scientific international journal coming from sub-Saharan Africa and soaring – surely, a huge success deserving of multiple accolades and felicitations. Not only has the journal performed exceptionally well, it has exceeded the reservations of critics who had doubted its sustained delivery, given the proclivity for journals from African countries to fall apart soon after they are established. Initially published twice a year, the journal evolved to a tri-annual publication in 2002, quarterly publication in 2009, and then to a bimonthly publication in 2021.  In view of the high quality articles currently being submitted to the journal on a weekly basis, the editorial board of the journal has decided that only a monthly publication schedule will enable the journal meet the expectations of its clienteles. Therefore, from January 2022, the AJRH will be published every month, and with a renewed and rejuvenated management team, we are confident that the journal will continue to do better. In conclusion, the management of the AJRH is proud that the journal has reached the accelerating phase of its development.  Going forward, the journal will pursue high levels of achievement with a determination to accomplish higher ranking in the global classification of high impact journals. Conçu à l'origine pour publier des recherches et des documentations innovantes relatives à la santé et aux droits sexuels et reproductifs en Afrique et à propos de l'Afrique, la revue joue désormais un rôle dominant dans les discours scientifiques sur les droits et la justice sociale pertinents pour la planification du développement international dans les domaines de la population et de la santé des femmes. Dans la courte période de sa création, la revue a enregistré plusieurs succès dans de nombreux domaines. C'était la première revue internationale qui documentait les événements, la recherche et la programmation en santé reproductive en Afrique subsaharienne à l'émergence du « changement de paradigme » et de la nouvelle doctrine de la santé reproductive. Après la Conférence internationale sur la population et le développement (CIPD) au Caire, en Égypte en 1994, et la quatrième Conférence mondiale à Pékin, en Chine en 1995, il était évident que le continent africain était le contrecoup du déni des droits et de la justice sociale qui dominait le discours dans les deux conférences. La venue de l'AJRH en 1997 pour documenter les événements ultérieurs sur la promotion et le développement des droits et de la santé sexuelle et reproductive était donc une innovation délibérément et convenablement conçue pour relever le défi dans le contexte du continent africain. Depuis lors, l'AJRH n'a pas seulement propulsé le développement de la santé et des droits des femmes et de la reproduction sur le continent, elle a aidé les pays africains à développer de nouvelles façons de penser la santé, les droits et la justice sociale d'une manière plus holistique, et à construire un nouvelle cohorte d'adhérents et de chercheurs sur le continent. Un premier succès majeur de la revue a été son indexation par PubMed/Medline dans sa toute première édition1, qui, à notre connaissance, était la première fois qu'une telle réalisation était enregistrée par une revue publiée exclusivement dans un pays à faible revenu. Depuis lors, la revue a été indexée par presque toutes les agences d'indexation clés, y compris Scopus2. La revue était l'une des rares revues publiées dans des pays à faible revenu qui était initialement publiée en tant que revue en libre accès via Sabinet3, et maintient maintenant un présence en libre accès dans six domaines supplémentaires, y compris dans son propre site Web (www.ajrh.info). En 2005, en seulement sept ans d'existence, l'AJRH a été classée par la National Universities Commission (NUC), l'agence nigériane de supervision de l'enseignement supérieur, comme ― la meilleure revue du Nigeria qui rencontre la revue internationale‖4. Plus récemment, la revue a été classée numéro 1 dans la discipline des sciences de la santé reproductive en Afrique 5 et numéro 43 dans le monde6. Vingt-six ans de publication continue d'une revue scientifique internationale venant d'Afrique sub-saharienne et en plein essor – assurément, un énorme succès qui mérite de multiples accolades et félicitations. Non seulement la revue a-t-elle été exceptionnellement performante, mais elle a dépassé les réserves des critiques qui avaient douté de sa pérennité, étant donné la propension des revues des pays africains à s'effondrer peu de temps après leur création. Initialement publiée deux fois par an, la revue a évolué vers une publication tri-annuelle en 2002, une publication trimestrielle en 2009, puis une publication bimensuelle en 2021. Compte tenu des articles de haute qualité actuellement soumis à la revue sur une base hebdomadaire, le comité de rédaction de la revue a décidé que seul un calendrier de publication mensuel permettra à la revue de répondre aux attentes de ses clientèles. Par conséquent, à partir de janvier 2022, l'AJRH sera publiée chaque mois, et avec une équipe de direction renouvelée et rajeunie, nous sommes convaincus que la revue continuera à faire mieux. En conclusion, la direction de l'AJRH est fière que la revue ait atteint la phase d'accélération de son développement. Nous remercions tous les auteurs, réviseurs, lecteurs et mentors qui ont contribué à maintenir l'esprit de la revue au cours de ces années.
