Oral metiamide as an effective inhibitor of gastric acid secretion in man

Abstract

A method is described for the evaluation of the effect of oral therapy on gastric acid secretion. Metiamide, a histamine H2-receptor antagonist, produced a 51% inhibition of pentagastrin-stimulated gastric acid secretion during the third hour after a standard 200-mg oral dose in man.S. Afr. Med.
