Experimental and computational study of the aerodynamics of an ahmed body

Abstract

The purpose of present paper is to research two different ways of studying the aerodynamics of a ground vehicle, with the use of a bluff body type called Ahmed body. An extensive process of design of the Ahmed body was first carried out, followed by experimental testing in a wind tunnel and finally a CFD simulation was done to compare both methods. Experimental measurements show a very low uncertainty below 3% so that they are considered reliable. Numerical results show a very good agreement with both other computational studies and wind tunnel measurements
