(in spite of the fact that these cells) In spite of the fact that these cells are not electrically excitable, they possess a number of conductances due to their expression of ion channels and even neurotransmitter-gated ion-channels, many of which remain to be explored functionally and structurally. Detailed methods for obtaining cells suitable for electrophysiological recordings and protocols to perform patch-clamp recordings are outlined in the text
