  7. the Workforce Review Team published a report on Exploring New Ways of Working in Cardiothoracic Surgery. It was a wide-ranging review of the UK cardiothoracic workforce and described in detail the changing forces within the specialty. In particular it detailed the effect of changes in cardiological practice (greater willingness to use drug-eluting stents, potential reduction in new patients with increased statin usage) balanced against greater demand fuelled by a progressive reduction in waiting times and an increased willingness to refer and operate on increasingly high-risk patients ( shop held with the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgeons (now the Society for Cardiothoracic Surgery) and the Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) in cardiothoracic surgery
