    Prevalence of celiac disease in patients with irritable bowel syndrome in Ardabil-Iran (2009-10)

    Background and Objective: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is the most prevalent gastrointestinal disorder and is one the common conditions seen by gastroenterologists in their daily practice. This study was done to determine the prevalence of celiac disease in patients with irritable bowel syndrome in Ardabil-Iran. Materials and Methods: This descriptive study was conducted on 105 patients with IBS whome referred to the gastroenterology unit in Ardabil-Iran during 2009-10. Serum IgA anti tTG were measured all patients with positive for antibodies against tTG were candidated for upper endoscopy and biopsy. Data were analyzed using SPSS-16, t-test, Chi-Square and Fisher’s exact tests. Results: The average age of IBS subjects were 31.4±10.14 years (range 16-63 years). Celiac disease was diagnosed in 14 subjects (13.5%). The celiac patient age were 22-55 years with mean of 34.93±9.47. Among celiac afflicted patients IBS type D and M observed among 10 and 4 patients, respectivley. Celiac affected female constituted 12 (85.7%) of all patients (P<0.05). 10 of these patients were IBS-D and 4 with IBS-M. From 14 celiac patient 4 (28.57%) were family related, but this rate among IBS patient was 3.3%, this difference was significant (P<0.05). Conclusion: This study showed that the prevalence of celiac in patients with IBS is found to be 13.5% which seem is more than ther studies in other parts of Iran

These software are capable of creating a library of articles and documents, categorizing them, as well as providing easy citation methods for authors and researchers. One of these software is the Mendeley. Mendeley can manage and organize research for its users. One of its various advantages over other similar software is that it is free of charge. In this article, we will review the various characteristics of this reference manager. Then we will compare it with other similar software and show that it has a better applicability

    Basic Principles of Reporting Results of Conventional Statistical Tests in Scientific Biomedical Articles

    A scientific article is written to convey information to the reader. The results section is the core component of an article and its objective is to report the findings obtained from statistical analyses for testing hypotheses. For multiple reasons, articles published in medical journals are statistically poor; however, few biomedical journals describe the basics of statistical results presentation to authors. As regards, the writing and presentation of statistical results are as important as statistical results finding. The objective of present article is providing an instruction for reporting the results obtained from data analyses by using some common statistical methods. This article contains two parts: general principles about the structure of results section and basic principles related to how to report descriptive and analytical statistics

    تعيين نياز‌های آموزشی اعضای هيأت علمی دانشگاه علوم پزشکی لرستان با تکنيک دلفی

    تدارک و طراحی برنامه های آموزش مداوم، مطابق با نيازهای آموزشی گروه های هدف، از اولويتهای مهم اجرای برنامه ها بوده که همواره از طرف جامعه پزشکی مورد تأکيد قرار گرفته است. مطالعات انجام شده در زمينه شناسايی نيازهای آموزشی درکشور اندک است. هدف مطالعه حاضر، تعيين و اولويت بندی نيازهای آموزشی اعضای هيأت علمی دانشگاه علوم پزشکی لرستان بود. روش: اين مطالعه پيمايشی به روش نياز سنجی دلفی طی سه مرحله در سال 1390 انجام شد. نيازهای آموزشی توسط 40 نفراز اعضای هيأت علمی صاحب نظر از متخصصين بالينی، پرستاری و مامايی، علوم پايه، بهداشت و پيراپزشکی (هر گروه10نفر) تعيين و اولويت بندی گرديدند، روش نمونه گيری مبتنی بر هدف بود. سه پرسشنامه برای جمع آوری و امتياز بندی داده ها استفاده شد. يافته ها: پنج اولويتهای اول نيازهای آموزشی اعضای هيأت علمی بالينی شامل؛ جستجوی منابع، کتابخانه ديجيتالی، فن مقاله نويسی به زبان فارسی و انگليسی، روش تحقيق پيشرفته و روش تدريس مقدماتی وپيشرفته بود. همچنين نيازهای آموزشی اعضای هيأت علمی پرستاری ومامايي؛ مکالمه زبان انگليسی، ارسال مقالات به مجلات خارجی، کتابخانه ديجيتالی، روشهای آموزش بالينی و روشهای نوين تدريس؛ تعيين شدند. نيازهای آموزشی اعضای هيأت علمی علوم پايه روش تدريس مقدماتی وپيشرفته، مقاله نويسی به زبان انگليسی، مهارتهای تدريس، روش تهيه کتابهای الکترونيک و سخنرانی به زبان انگليسی و نيازهای آموزشی اعضای هيأت علمی بهداشت و پيراپزشکی جستجوی پيشرفته در منابع الکترونيکی و موتورهای جستجوگر، روش تدريس پيشرفته، کتابخانه ديجيتالی، کلاسهای مکالمه زبان انگليسی و دوره های آموزشی کار با دستگاههای پيشرفته آناليز بود . نتيجه گيری: بعضی از نيازهای آموزشی در گروه ها مشترک بود، اما برحسب تجربه، رشته تخصصی و نقشهای بالينی، آموزشی و مديريتی تا حدودی تفاوت داشتند. تعيين و اولويت بندی نيازهای آموزشی اعضای هيأت علمی دانشکده های مختلف می تواند گام مهمی در طراحی برنامه های آموزشی متناسب با نيازهای حرفه ای اساتيد باشد و کيفيت آموزش را ارتقاء دهد

    Mapping the Scientific Outputs in the Field of Library and Information Science among Islamic Countries in the Web of Science Database from 1994 to 2009

    Purpose: The aim of this research was to study the documents produced in the field of Library and Information Science (LIS) by Islamic Countries which are members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, during 1994-2009. Design/ Methodology/Approach: By applying the method of citation analysis, the best authors and publications in the field of LIS were identified and a historiographic map of the scientific outputs of Islamic countries was depicted. Findings: The average annual growth rate of publications in Islamic countries during the years studied is calculated to be 13.78%. Furthermore, the annual growth of publications in each Islamic country is calculated using the exponential regression method; results show that according to R2 which shows the annual growth rate of the countries’ scientific outputs, the growth of Iran, Bangladesh, Turkey, UAE, Pakistan and Egypt is statistically significant during the 16 years studied (p<0.05). During this 16-year period, the highest rates of growth compared with other countries belong to Iran (33%), Bangladesh (28%) and Turkey (17%). The clusters formed on the historiographic map, which are on the basis of “LCS” and “GCS”, are depicted along with the best publications in this field. Conclusion: With respect to the explosive growth of information, the growth of scientific outputs of the Islamic countries in the Web of Science database does not seem to be all it could be. Authorities of these countries are required to make a serious attempt in producing scientific publications and indexing them in valid international databases
