RENEWAL OF ISLAMIC LAW OF LIBERAL ISLAM NETWORK:\ud QAWAIDU ‘UQULI AL-IJTIMA’IYAH AS SOURCE OF ISLAMIC LAW\ud

Essentially, both revealed religions and religions stemming from human thought (earth religions) aim to give a good way and regularity for humans in performing their functions as caliph. However, instead of becoming a way of life, some people sometimes deem religions as one of inhibiting factors of development both individually and communally. This view is not a result of a priori attitude towards the existence of religions and its implication on life dynamics, but they empirically perceive that religions are often used as a tool to prevent innovation and improvement of human reason

Young Women Writers from the Pesantren Tradition:\ud Self Initiative, Learning Environment, and the Education System

The first section of this paper provides a brief description of the writing tradition in the pesantren. It examines how the writing tradition has been developed in the pesantren. The next section describes women’s involvement in writing in pesantren and explores some differences between older generations and the new generation, and then moves on to focus on several young women writers from the pesantren tradition and the two pesantren in Yogyakarta. In analyzing these writers’ experiences, I try to determine family assistance, environments, and schooling factors that have had significant influences on their careers, as well as looking for evidence of an educational atmosphere in which talented girls are encouraged. The paper concludes with the proposal of various steps that could be considered by pesantren in order to support an ongoing regeneration of women’s writing

Violence has been the problem of humanity which is not easy or clearly explained. Many tragedies show that roots of violence could not be reduced to a single cause. There are multiple parts that endorse conflict and rivalry which stimulate violence. These parts jumble together and mix up. Any explanation about root of violence that indicates only a single factor is not sufficient. There are perspectives that identify violence as explainable phenomenon based on various studies and their particularities. Tulisan ini hendak menjelaskan pemaknaan sebahagian umat Islam terhadap tauhid dan relasinya dengan proses kehidupan berbangsa dan bernegara. Asumsi yang dibangun adalah bahwa tauhid atau teologi dengan makna substansial sebagai pembebasan yang bersifat inklusif telah mengalami pereduksian yang sistemik menjadi teologi-apologis dan eksklusif. Munculnya berbagai gagasan dari pemikir muslim seperti Harun Nasution, Nurcholish Madjid, Dawam Rahardjo, Kuntowidjoyo, Mansour Faqih dan lain-lain merupakan kritik atas teologi apologis yang eksklusif. Berkembangnya wacana Islam rasional, Islam peradaban dan Islam transformatif dan lain sebagianya di satu sisi, dapat ditempatkan sebagai respon dari semakin eksklusifnya teologi sebagai pembebasan sehingga umat Islam kian terpinggirkan dalam proses kehidupan berbangsa dan bernegara. Hal ini disebabkan pola internalisasi dan indoktrinasi teologi Islam cenderung monolog, kaku dan tidak menyediakan ruang kesejarahan dan kemanusiaan. Di bahagian lain hal ini juga dapat dipahami sebagai upaya kontekstualisasi nilai-nilai Islam khususnya teologi Islam pada persoalan dan isu-isu kebangsaan yang semakin majemuk
